Have put in 8 hours in MGS3

>have put in 8 hours in MGS3
>have only reached The End
Why do I suck so much at this Zig Forumsros? Sure, I haven't seriously played vidya in about a decade but... I feel like a retard...

You can go through the game much faster playing guns blazing, it's a better Rambo simulator than a stealth game

You playing Subsistence or Snake Eater? The latter is frustrating as fuck even if it's the OG experience.

It only gets worse from there. It adds to the story, you experience first hand how skilled big boss was.

You don't suck, the game is just an unintuitive clunky mess that is mostly praised by nostalgiafags who played it when they were 13 and had unlimited free time.

>the game is just an unintuitive clunky mess
git

MGS3 is probably the hardest in the franchise. It demands slower methodical play using everything you have: no radar, camo, peeking around corners and through tall grass, ect. assuming you're playing the og version and not subsistance or HD Its not as arcady or run and gun as the others

Sometimes I do that, sometimes I play stealth. I can't remember how long it took me in that Russian base where you had to wear the scientist uniform, because I wanted to open the locker and get the hanckercheif. The scientist would spot me, and I'd wait for them all to come and kill me so that I could restart the section. That took about 2 or so minutes everytime. And this basically repeats itself. If things don't work out the way I want them to, I wait to die and restart the section.
I've got the Legacy Collection. I finished MGS1 & 2, not it's 3, then PW, then 4 and I'll buy V later.
I don't know, I have a walkthrough that I take peeks at so that I won't do circles around the jungle, and the guy clears it in 7 hours.
I don't have radars and the such, no. It's the Normal Difficulty, like I said, I haven't sat down to play vidya in years and years; I'm pretty rusty. I just want to finish MGS because it's unfinished since my kid/teen years and I want to do so before Uni. It's also a way for me to "get back on the horse" since I've completely fucked my academic journey thus far.

>I've got the Legacy Collection
Wow it's the Subsistence version which is the babby version of MGS3 lmao. Just sneak and watch out for the bad dudes lol. Also play PW after MGS4 and before V.

Like I said, 3 is the hardest. There's a million secret paths, items, tools, boss strategies, but on a first run you won't know them. 3 can be brutal, especially after playing 1 and 2 like you have.

Playing a video game is gunna get you back up on your horse huh?
Well whatever. As important as the gameplay is friend be sure to take as much time soaking up the Codec calls and cutscenes too. I recently played through the game and it took me roughly 12 hours in game (2 weeks irl) but I could've beaten it in 8 if I didn't literally sit through 4+ hours of Codec calls

i trust you can git gud user
dont give up

What's the difference? All I can find is that it containts the original MGs and had enhanced graphics for its time.
I suppose. I just feel like a moron. I explore around, I restart, they all take time.
>Playing a video game is gunna get you back up on your horse huh?
It's part of structure. I used to watch movies and shows as recreational activity, which was ultimately passive entertainment and gave me ultimately nothing. No matter how many "kinos" I watched. Now I just play an hour at night before bed, read a bit, and then sleep. I work out in the mornings when it's not as hot. I've not upped my study hours to what they were 3 years back, but it's going alright. Vidya is just a way to have some winding down time that's not as passive as just sitting down and watching.
>take as much time soaking up the Codec calls and cutscenes too
Oh, I watch all of them.

I can't give up, I have to finish this. The whole saga.

>What's the difference? All I can find is that it containts the original MGs and had enhanced graphics for its time.
Subsistence has a controllable camera whereas Snake Eater has a fixed one ala 1 & 2.

since this is a MGS thread, PC bros how do you select supportive weapons in TPP? Do you use a mouse wheel or arrow keys? I want to get good at FOBs but I feel like I'm cant progress without mastering the controls.

just use a controller lol

>Subsistence has a controllable camera
and that's a good thing.

yeah but mouse aiming is too good

Ehh, not really. The game is designed around the overhead view. Stuff like peeking around corners and the sensors are litterally worthless with the new camera just breaking difficulty. Subsistance does to Snake eater what Twin Snakes does to MGS1's gameplay.
inb4 TWIN SNAKES SUCKS. Yes, but both new control/camera schemes break their games

Oh, I see.

Yeah having a good camera is for da cashuls

>clunky mess
You are a retard why? because you are, the gameplay it's pretty good for a MGS game faggots like you only complain about muh plot muh kojima, that's why nobody likes metal gear solid fags they never shut up about muh 2deep4u

the overhead view gets boring and tedious quickly.
Also it's anti-immersive as fuck

>gets boring and tedious
I disagree, just whipping the camera about and seeing everything is boring, actually using all of snake's abilities is fun.
> it's anti-immersive
What are you, insane? Slowing moving to a corner, because you don't know whos there, backing up to the wall and carefully peeking around to see if the coast is clear is immensely immersive. walking full speed up to the corner and just turning because you can move the camera around eh corner and see everything is boring and anti-immersive.

>muh ludo haz to be as clunky and hard as it gets otherwise it's for cazualz
Last time I checked I wasn't a specially trained secret agent. If the limited camera makes it "immersive", go the extra mile. Cut yourself, fill the room with bugs, up the heat, eat some raw snakes and preted you're just like da real Snake! Only then you can claim to be better than them cazualz.

Uh-huh. Since we're going full retard, next time you play Thief 2, install a mod that makes the game 3rd person instead of 1st with wallhacks. Should up the immersion. Nigger, we're all losers on Zig Forums and not our game avatars. Doesn't mean the new camera isn't a crutch for bad players, as well as a tool to obsolete half the tech in the game

It's a functional, normal camera not
>muh ebin haxxors

It's fine user. Take your time on the first run.

Are you implying an overhead camera isn't functional or normal? user, grow up. Like I said earlier, the game isn't balanced around it, its the twin snakes problem again.

I usually take around 20 hours when I play MGS3 after a long time I think.
I don't know why you'd want to beat it quickly.

No, it's not for such a game. It was awful in the first two, and it's awful here. MGS2 kinda worked around it, but there's no reason for 3, with its open spaces, to not have a proper camera.

It wasn't awful in the first 4 games, nor is it awful in the 5th. MGS has the overhead camera because they're 3D updates on the MSX formula. So there is very mush a reason for the games to have the proper, overhead, camera. Open space doesn't matter, especially with how tall grass acts similarly to walls for obscuring the player. The game was designed around the og camera, new camera breaks the game. It's certainly useful, and good for youngins who are too used to modern games, but until they change the map design and enemy ai patterns, the new camera is a crutch. An anti immersive one. Unless you admit twin snakes' fist person aiming doesn't break the game?
