Bloodborne lore thread

Just finished the game and I got some questions:
>Where did healing blood come from?
>what is paleblood?
>What are the pthumerans?
>Why did the hunter workshop even disband?
>What is the churches endgoal?
>Why is iosephka making aliens
>what even are the aliens? Eyes in them what the fuck?
>what the fuck even is the doll? Is she a deeper character than i realize?
>redpill me on the gods/great ones. Why are they seemingly fighting one another? Whats up with baby mergo being the final goal in this game to end the hunt
>on that note, what the fuck is the purpose of the unseen village people? Why do they seem to worship the moon?

OMG ThA BLOOD and SHiiet

Take all my answers with a grain of salt. This is just an attempt to answer these questions, others might have better answers.
>Where did healing blood come from?
Queen Yharnam
>what is paleblood?
The Moon Presence
>What are the pthumerans?
Ancient civilization of other hominoids, they're pale and freakishly tall compared to humans.
>Why did the hunter workshop even disband?
I think it just became defunct after years and years of gradually losing the fight against the beast scourge desu.
>What is the churches endgoal?
The ascension of humanity through the consumption of blood.
>Why is iosephka making aliens
She's a Choir member, she's performing experiments which have the end goal of bringing humanity into a state of existence similar to the Great Ones.
>what even are the aliens? Eyes in them what the fuck?
No idea tbqh, they're obviously the result of experimentation but I'm not sure how much they relate to Great Ones
>what the fuck even is the doll? Is she a deeper character than i realize?
She definitely is a deep character, I'm not sure of her full significance but she was fashioned in connection to the Lady Maria
>redpill me on the gods/great ones. Why are they seemingly fighting one another? Whats up with baby mergo being the final goal in this game to end the hunt
One of the biggest and hardest to answer questions of all. I like the interpretation that the Great Ones are actually not even really fighting us, but we just can't comprehend their existence. Like when a human moves his hand and a fly freaks out because it seems a mountain of flesh is coming at him - Ebrietas would be that mountain of flesh, if that makes sense.
>on that note, what the fuck is the purpose of the unseen village people? Why do they seem to worship the moon?
Their goal was to call the Blood Moon to strengthen the dream state or w/e

Play the game again idiot

Read The Paleblood Hunt by Redgrave.
Also if u haven't played DLC yet do it asap

I've never understood literally any of the lore in Souls games and I don't care.

One met the dark with learning. But in the end, learned his knowledge was wanting.
The world began without knowledge, and without knowledge will it end.
Dost not this ring clear and true?
Fear not, the dark, my friend.
And let the feast begin.

seriously though what the fuck are the pillars in the hunters dream? the theory seems to be they are the dreams of other hunters

so what the fuck was this supposed to be?

Like you will have any fucking idea about what's going on in story let alone lore.

Bloodborne was supposed to be Demon's Souls sequel before they ditched everything that resembles it.

no user thats some weird version of the moon prescence in t he files

Dream is bound to Gehrman's consciousness so there is no way to tell what they actually represent.

However you can notice many similarities between Ash Lake and Hunters Dream.

>Ebrietas would be that mountain of flesh
Almost everything in your post I'm down with but this specifically not so much. Ebrietas worked with the church extensively and is implied to not be a true great one but an ascended human.

Yeah, him using Ebrietas was a bad example, the Amygdalas are maybe a better one, certainly formless Oedon is.
They're interested in humans but their true goals really are ineffable to us, in the same way a fly could never understand what a human is thinking, is the point he was getting at.

Kind of wish the old plot with Ebrietas being Kos was what we got. Even though I love the old hunters I think Ebrietas being Kos is a lot more fitting with a lot of stuff in the base game.

To be honest never thought Ebrietas was Kos myself, where was that suggested? Or was that written out for the final draft?

It was scrapped, there's just lots of evidence from cut content that that was the original plan for the plot.

Who the fuck is Caryll and how did she manage to transcribe Great Ones utterings to symbols? We know so little about her and meanwhile each rune and story behind it is just so fascinating...

>playing Bloodborne for story and lore
Just turn your brain off, bro.

Mortal Kombat towers. The dream is part of the netherrealm

PC port when bros

why does Ebrietas mourn at a sculpture that looks like rom? Why would she care about some dumb human who got eyes grafted into her head?

is pale moon another way to reference the moon presence? Is pale moon another way to reference blood that allows one to ascend? What does it actually mean?

how did Laurence beckon the moon presence? How do you beckon a great one?

similarly, is the ritual in yaharlgul meant to beckon another great one (Mergo?)? Is the blood moon a great one? Is it another plane of existence?

why does an apparition of queen yharnam want us to kill Mergo? Why or how does she care if Micolash makes contact with Mergo? How will that help the Choir ascend?

along that point, if they already made contact with Ebrietas, why would they need to make contact with Mergo? Is Ebrietas not a real Great One?

What exactly is the difference between a Dream and a Nightmare? Are they interchangeable? Are they both different planes of existence? When the hunter wakes up in one of the endings, he's just on another plane of existence right?

What is that black spirit you attack after defeating the Orphan? Why is he the real nightmare? Was the thing we fought another apparition?

how exactly do the chalice dungeons work? Are they removed from space and time? You can encounter a still pregnant Queen Yharnam and yet she has miscarried (?) in the main game when you see her.

what the hell was the one reborn? Was it Mergo? How was it born once, then born again? Is it a failed Great One?

>she

bump

Different version of the Moon Presence, possibly was supposed to be the real final boss, but they ended up reusing that idea (fighting at the shore) for Orphan of Kos.

bloodborne is incredibly overrated and average

>central yharnam
best level in the game, great bosses
>cathedral ward and old yharnam
great level, great bosses
>forbidden woods
bad level but good boss
>hemwick charnel lane
forgettable level, bad boss
>bygernwerth
worst level in the game with bad boss
>yahar'gul
good level but bad boss
>hypogean gaol
meh level meh boss
>nightmare of mensis
terrible level with worst boss in the game (micolash), and one decent boss (wet nurse)
>upper cathedral ward
bad level, 1 bad boss (emmisary) 1 good boss (ebrietas)
>cainhurst
good level, good boss
>nightmare frontier
horrible level with cool optional boss
>lecture building
boring
>hunter's dream
cool hub and the final bosses are good

that's only a handful of bosses and areas that are actually decent surrounded by levels that are either just bad or mediocre

when people look back and think "omg bloodborne is such a masterpiece d00d", they're thinking of the first half
and probably also the final bosses and the dlc
but it's still a measurable fact that nearly 50% of bloodborne ranges from mediocre to downright garbage

it's hardly challenging, most of the enemies take no time at all to kill and the only roadblocks you'll come against will be the enemy hunters which are more often than not more difficult than actual bosses.

chalice dungeons are a complete waste of time that were just added to pad out the game whenever you get bored of the main areas, and every single "boss" you find in them will be below average at best with no kind of challenge. an interesting idea in practice but poorly executed and should've just been left in the idea guy's head instead of cutting what could've been another 3 or 4 levels for what amounts to wasted storage space.

DLC doesn't make the base game any better if you have to pay extra to get the best areas and bosses the game has to offer.
