My older brother doesn't like games but loves westerns.
He played through most of the game and stopped when John got his family back.
I asked him if he was ever going to finish but he told me that John got his family back and walked off into the sunset like in the movies.

He doesn't know John died, I envy him.

He was a criminal and a murderer.
He was a weapon too dangerous to be kept alive after he had been used.

kino

His time was up. The time of outlaws and cowboys was at an end. He lived like an outlaw and he died like one.

>There was zero fucking reason to kill him
there was zero fucking reason not to either
fuck John, Arthur is better anyways

Except there totally was and it's actually foreshadowed really well? The government needs to justify their paychecks, How is Ross going to get his medals and keep his career afloat when all the gangs of the wild west are wiped out? He needs another scapegoat, and John was the perfect pick.

Yeah but user! If he just gets away with a happily ever after, then it won't be super cereal and emotional! It needs to be super important and emotional so we can send the message that crime doesn't pay! Even though in reality it often does pay and plenty of people fight against the law, do their time and get out scott free! Even though Marston made some of the dumbest choices a retard could make after he got out of the gang and got away with the good ending!

Not his fault. After I killed Dutch, the family man arc went for too long and I thought it was just a bunch of filler side quests that would go on indefinitely. I guess it was just a way for the player to develop an attachment to John's family and for the finale to have a good impact.

>Claude lives
>Toni Cipriani lives
>Tommy lives
>CJ lives
>Niko lives
>Luis Lopez lives
>Trevor, Michael and Franklin canonically live
>James Earl Cash lives
>Daniel Lamb lives
>Red Harlow lives
>Jimmy Hopkins lives
OP you're full of shit

>people do their time and get out scott free!

Doing time isn't getting out scott free retard, that's the literal definition of punishment. Marston's list of crimes would easily earn him the death penalty back then and probably now, and that's assuming the player doesn't take him on routine rampages to wipe out entire towns and platoons of lawmen.

by doing time I meant that he played the outlaw and got out of the game unscathed, you fucking dipshit.
>Marston's list of crimes would easily earn him the death penalty back then and probably now
which explains why he's such a fucking moron. he thought it'd be ok to just slightly change his name and appearance and that people would just forget he existed. what a dipshit. he had time, he could have found a way to get out of the country with his family, but instead he decided to buy property outside of the very town that he and his robber friends hijacked, which was the very incident that sent them running from the law in a big way in the first place. what a dumbshit.

>He played the outlaw and got out of the game unscathed

Except he literally doesn't? He's forced to go and hunt down his former gang members and then gets executed via firing squad. Are you actually retarded or what?

>John is an idiot
WHOA!? You mean his primary character flaw of not thinking things through enough and being kind of an idiot plays into his ultimate downfall and the the plot as a whole? Wow, it's almost like it's well written or something. If you just want a story that's like a protagonist wankfest why don't you go play a Sword Art Online game or something?

I feel like RDR2 disrespects first game's story in some aspects. It shows like Arthur did everything that's good and John was a lucky guy in all of these other than his own character. I don't think Rockstar meant to do that delibirately but giving John more screen time would be better especially in middle part of the game. Game pretends John doesn't exists and doesn't have his own character until Epilogue which seems insulting even when Sean has more screentime and character into him. RDR2 isn't a bad story and especially better than 1 in many cases but it also cheapens RDR1 imo.

>Except he literally doesn't?
He does, though. Are you brain damaged? When Dutch gets influenced by Micah and the whole gang starts crumbling, they would've left him to fucking rot inside the pen if it wasn't for the likes of Arthur and Sadie. That's "literally" a get out of jail free card, you shit slurping faggot. Besides that, he's one of the few who got away after the law came crashing down on them. How many other gang members died over the course of their tomfoolery with Dutch? Sean? Lenny? Hosea? Molly? How many years passed after the events at Beaver Hollow? At least 4 or 5 years, and this nigga thinks he'll never have to answer to another lawman again? After he was broken out of a federal penitentiary? What a dumbass.
>You mean his primary character flaw
Yep, you're fucking brain damaged alright. The point is that he's an idiot and they played that up to emphasize their big finale at the end where they kill him off despite his best efforts to change into a better person. It comes across as cheap emotional manipulation when you think about how fucking boneheaded he is and how much he'd have to overlook in order to reach that point. But whatever, keep defending his stupidity. It doesn't make it any less stupid.

I think Dutch becomes mad after death of Hosea more than Micah's influence. Micah wasn't doing shit until Part 5's ending.

You are an actual buffoon. Play the first game or watch it on Youtube or something you fucking mongoloid. The entire point of John's story is that he can't escape his past, it all comes back to haunt him even with his brief reprieves from it. You are an actual moron and I hope you choke on a rope you piece of shit, raise the world's collective IQ by a half a point and neck yourself, we'll all be spared your rampant stupidity.

I think you're underselling it quite a bit. John certainly isn't the focus but he has an entire arc about him gradually realizing how much his family means to him while at the same time becoming disillusioned with Dutch as he slips further off the deep end. Arthur is more important throughout 2 because he is the star of that game, not John but John still has shit to do throughout most of the game.

When I played RDR2 I hoped they had learned and when Arthur was sick, I hoped they would fucking suprise us. And make him presumedly death and when you play as John he would turn up sooner or later or after John dies. And it was revealed he found a cure. At leadt that would have been a suprise. But no they went the same old boring way and ruined not one but two great characters in their franchise. Next RDR I will wait for the spoilers and if the character again dies I will not play their fucking game anymore.

I mean, maybe you have a point, but it's kind of irrelevant. The whole point is that, for whatever reason, the gang was falling apart, and when John needed them most, none of them would have gone to save him, except for Arthur. Therefore, he absolutely got out of the business of being an outlaw unscathed. He would have rotted away in prison otherwise, and that's not even the only way that he got lucky thanks to Arthur.

No, shut the fuck up you subhuman piece of filth. You clearly didn't play the second game otherwise you'd know that you're talking out of your asshole. Kill yourself.

I dont agree, the way it is portrayed its more like stuff happens to John that we simply arent a part of and dont see, but it happens and we see John grow after coming from those events.
You get to see him care more and more for his family, and his distancing from Dutch.

If Arthur had survived it would feel like a cheap twist, the entire setup was that Arthur was going to die, he isn't in the first game and the entire story is about the downfall of the group and Arthur giving all he has, even his life.

The game doesn't show it very well outside of a couple optional camp interactions but basically anytime we're not with them Micah is just whispering sweet nothings in to Dutch's ear about how great he is while casting doubt on everyone else and that's evidently been true since he joined up with them since he was the one pushing for the Blackwater job in the first place. Dutch puts on a good act but for all his high-minded ideals he's just as susceptible to having his ego stroked as anyone else if not moreso. That's why he is so shaken by Arthur dying beyond his obvious emotional attachment to him, he finally realized he had fallen for a line of bullshit and gotten most of the people he cared about killed due to his own ego and hubris which is why he walks away from Micah and why he helps kill him in the end. All Micah had to do was essentially tell him he wasn't a failure and that it was actually the fault of everyone else and Dutch went for it because he was too prideful a man to ever truly admit fault, shit going bad in Saint Denis just accelerated it from something more gradual to a fast approaching inevitability since he no longer had Hosea to hold back who he truly was, and honestly by that time it didn't really matter anyway since he wasn't even really listening to Hosea anymore.

>NOOOO JOHN ESCAPES AND LIVES HAPPILY EVER AFTER IN THE PREQUEL SO HE NEVER SUFFERS CONSEQUENCES FOR HIS ACTIONS!

You're a fucking dipshit retard. John's story begins in 2 and ends in the original game, where his past comes back to haunt him. You complete fucking retard, you absolute subhuman filth, I hope you get in a car wreck and die with the rest of your family for being such a moron.

user, I'm seriously worried about your mental health. It's not right for someone to be so fucking mind numbingly retarded. Maybe you should go into your dad's garage and find some antifreeze, it's a really great stimulant that will help you grow a brain. Please, come back when you're better, we're all rooting for you! Dipshit.

They had all the reasons to kill him.
No matter how much he played rancher his past would keep catching up to him. John couldn't run from his crimes forever.
On the other hand, having jack turn into a outlaw was extremely unnecessary and made John's sacrifice in vain.

Are we supposed to assume Jack became a fully fledged outlaw? Outside of optional gameplay stuff all we see him do is chase down Ross and kill him to avenge his family.

Shut your fucking hole you chronic bleach drinker. Buy a gun and tell your mom to get that late-term abortion she never went through with while you were festering inside her cunt like a rotten parasite.

killing a retired federal agent makes him an outlaw for the rest of his life.

he just killed a FBI agent and lots of people saw him looking for ross, including Ross' wife if i'm not mistaken.
They're gonna be chasing him down.
Even if he doesn't go all out outlaw gunsliner riding around robbing banks and trains he'll never have a normal life.

Does he tell anyone besides Ross his name? All anyone chasing him would have to go off of is a description from Ross's family. A shave, haircut and change of clothes would be more than enough to shake the heat off of him at least back then. Given the type of guy Ross was I doubt Jack was the only guy out there with a grudge against him. There's also the book easter egg in GTAV that was written by him but that could just be a fun reference rather than an actual canon fate for the character.

in fairness, did he ever say "Hi I'm Jack Marston, John's kid. Can you tell me where the man who violently shot my father to bits is please?"
As long as he doesn't go back to living around that area he technically shouldn't be in any real danger. Heck RDR2 entire main story is has it impossible to even go near blackwater without the gang being destroyed on arrival, yet John at least manages a few years with owning a ranch that's a 2 minute ride from there before folks come a knocking.
