Zig Forums tries to destroy a game

Barely. Every expansion has been pure trash, and years later they're still reeling from the atrocity that was Fallen Empire and Eternal Throne.
The only reason it still lives is the game is dirt cheap to maintain and can make a profit simply by putting out new cartel packs and a token amount of content for people to grind through.
>go free to play
>"It was a success!"
Hha haha ok whatever you say
Objection; Zig Forums never tried to destroy it, but merely mocked the pitiful state of the game on it's release and it's utter failure to be anything except the singular desperate plany in the ocean for star wars fans to grasp onto after the quite deliberate scuttling of Galaxies.
>Tortanic
>makes billions in revenue
>survives 9+ years
Seethe.
What should we make pur massively multiplayer game about? Got it! A single player story! ...
The story is fine, but it needed parts where you HAD to play with other people. Flashpoints are almost totally optional, I'm pretty sure some only become mandatory once you reach Ilum. The rest of the "story" FPs just change lines of dialogue later on and nothing else.
Some of the class and planet stories cross over eachother, but you don't fucking know it unless you've played the other classes. As the game is now, you can play for over 200 hours without grouping with another person, and then you find yourself at endgame with no fucking clue as to what you should be doing because the game gives you no direction and doesn't ease you into endgame activities.
Odds are good that this just causes most people to quit or start a new class until they finally do quit.
It was able to salvage itself by going free to play. Still doesn't change that it had catastrophic launch. Still doesn't change that it ruined Zig Forums forever.
>being a garbage fire is still going
Then I guess DayZ Standalone is really successful too!
It's an empty husk kept on life support by the IP alone. The ineptitude of Bioware and EA tanked what should have been an easy home run. Keep in mind that when this game came out Star Wars wasn't the divisive shitshow it is now.
>Billions
At least try
free to play is retarded desu you can barely do anything andd you gotta wait to type every like 3 min
im also regretting not trying it sooner as it seems alright
To be fair, FFXIV pulls that off perfectly
just buy a like £0:50 item on the stop or something , instantly upgrades you permanently to preferred status which is so much better.
honestly the game overall did deserve to die but in its current state its actually a good single player game just with other people in it.
Came here to say this. All that Tortanic amounted to was a collective pointing and laughing at how incompetent bioware was and satisfaction at the karmic justice of post DA2 and ME3 bioware having their biggest undertaking yet after sabotaging previous games to get it going
It makes over 150m/year, it's one of the ten most profitable online games every year for the last decade. It's made a billion dollars for EA so far. massivelyop.com
>muh tortanic
Who are your sources you mike zeroh faggot?
I don't understand all of this discussion. What is the point of this thread? All of these criticisms pale in comparison to the fact that this game is FUCKING BOOOOOORING. It's probably the most boring game I've ever played in my life. I loved KOTOR 1 and 2 and could never get myself to play this game after a day, almost every time I've played it. The combat is horridly monotonous.
There's an unfathomable number of F2P MMOs run by a skeleton crew that have been going on for a decade or more, that isn't a sign of success.
True, whenever I mistakenly decide to give it a chance again, all I can think of is all the other, better games I could be playing. The game tries so desperately to not alienate even the most braindead player, that there's never any risk of failure. Your companion will play the game almost entirely for you, there's no risk of failure, it's very boring.
The only reason why it's still afloat is the rich IT nerds who splurge on this game on all the microtransactions this game has to offer. Also it's using the Star Wars name so there will always be players.
This, the amount of rich fucks in this game is ridiculous, there's a reason that the prices are constantly inflated.
the game is only worth it if you are a star wars fan and want to live out a certain power fantasy, and even then, you have to go through such a slog of a MMO.
>perfectly
>by forcing you to watch cutscene after cutscene for the first couple of minutes when you just wanna play the fucking game
sure kiddo
>Can't romance Mission
>1,000 in universe years later
>snarky blue twi'lek is first romanceable character in the sith warrior storyline
>same VA
Bioware knew.
You don't even need to be rich, just patient. I've got over 50,000 cartel bucks because I just never spend them on anything. The only stuff I've bought is the cathar and nautolan species unlocks, and the additional hairstyles and eye colors for the humans but with different skin colors races.
>tries to destroy a game
I see BSN refugees are still butthurt at being laughed at by absolutely everyone.
It's not great though
The amount that whales spend in any game is insane and i will never wrap my mind around it.
>standards in MMOs and gaming in general drops to a point where SWTOR is good
grats! we made it!
No it's been nearly a decade and your Tortanic meme has been long gone dead
if its dead why do you people still complain about it? kek what a bitch.
If it wasn't dead, then why isn't SWTOR dead?
jist play a single player game at that point, it's going to have much better mechanics I play MMOs to interact with other people
