I have an og 3ds xl, with tn screens, and the Circle pad pro monstrosity.
It was lying around for better part of the decade. Only now, when I hacked It, I came to appreciate the kino.

I'd say yes as long as you are interested in its games, obviously. Hack it, it's super easy. I know emulation is good for both DS and 3DS but for me personally it's the only library I want to keep to playing on the og hardware because of the touch and two screens. They're also very cheap. a 64GB sd will have you set for a very long time.

The 3DS has been blown wide open. It's very easy, and every firmware can be hacked now. So yes you can do it yourself.

Don't actually worry about IPS screens. It's a meme and akin to a lottery. The difference is only noticeable side by side. It's just a 3DS screen, anyway. The only way to know is to run a homebrew app. (or have it listed as IPS on ebay, but they will likely charge extra because of it)
