Why was the Origami King so poorly received by critics?

Now that the dust has settled, what went wrong? It's rare to see a Nintendo game score below an 80, and it seemed to have so much hype going into it, especially because most journalists didn't seem to care about the older Paper Mario games.

If you think that 8/10 is a bad score then the problem is purely in your own head.

Game journalists always underscore Nintendo games in order to push Sony's third party games.

It‘s a bad zelda game that is also boring as shit

>be dogshit Nintendo game for toddlers
>get 8/10 anyway

8/10 in the game journo world is like a 4/10 realistically

>Why was the Origami King so poorly received by critics?

Its user score is lower in your picture.

The game's combat is garbage no matter what any apologist tries to claim.

Game scores are so inflated that a game will get an instant 7/10 just for being able to be turned on

I love the game at times and feel certain I'm going to 100% it but I completely agree with that critical score, unless you're in the playstyle that throws 1000 coins away per battle the combat is meaningless for the third game in a row.
The visuals, music, overall presentation, gameflow, writing, have never been better, but the characters are paperthin and the bossfights are a wash.
For nearest example I played the Water Shrine boss drunk, on the phone, intentionally missed 3 moves, and still won. Shit's dumb.

I thought yuzu was supposed to be able to play this perfectly already? My game doesn't even boot

SEETHING

Don't most Ninty games get a 2 point boost from popular critics it probably sits at a solid 5-6 out of 10 if this was the exact same game but without the mario franchise

You can tell that this game was shit from the fact that even the shills stopped making threads about it. In a few more months people will just forget it existed all together

What other Mario game scored below an 80?

They aren't bad tho. Kinda like what cod game score below 80. The amazing one, however, do get scores that stand out.

if you play one paper mario, you've played them all

Yes, Nintendo bonus

>Don't most Ninty games get a 2 point boost from popular critics
No. In fact it's usually the opposite and they lose points for not being narrative focused or lacking "accessibility" options.

lots. Look at some of the Mario spinoffs. A lot in the low 70’s and high 70’s and some in its 60’ and below for scores.

Brainlet "critics" probably got filtered too hard by the puzzle "battles"

Shut up sandalfag, nu-PM sucks.

In general or what? Either way I'll just name the first few a quick Google search gives me.
Lost levels
Luigi U
New Super 2
Land 1
Super Party
Ultra Smash

0/10

The sad Thing about this game is that the user scores are low because People are trying to bring the game down because it’s not TTYD And it’s obvious because the majority of them don’t give proper reasons for why they hate the game

Because most people can see the arbitrary restrictions holding the game back from being the original experience they've been hoping for sense Super ended

None of those had the budget of Origami King though. This is probably the highest profile Mario game that did so poorly.

>None of those had the budget of Origami King though
You're right, it was probably double that for the more recent ones like the NSMB games and super party.
>This is probably the highest profile Mario game
It's not, from day one PM was a budget title.

Don’t forget a lot of the mario party games, the majority of the mario tennis games, the majority of mario sports games and do t forget all the mario and sonic Olympic Games.

Gonna need some source, Super Party's budget was on the high end, can't imagine Nintendo going above that for TOK

That bonus is mostly given to cinematic Anglo/North European games. Have you noticed they always receive outstanding scores even though they lack creativity and good gameplay? The fact that only Anglo press has an international audience is really a big problem for Asians, Slavs, Meds, South Americans... Anglos control international narrative.

More nintard games should get ripped apart by user and critic scores alike. It's been far too long that nintendo has been given a free pass and bonus points for shit every single other developer and publisher gets ripped apart for.

This. Basically the only ones that did worse than TOK are remakes and multiplayer trash.

>Lost Levels
>the REAL SMB2 got shitty scores compared to a reskinned ripoff of an original title

>It's been far too long that nintendo has been given a free pass and bonus points
They never have user. Nintendo's games tend to have a range of 60 to 90 when it comes to rating.

>Nintendo's games tend to have a range of 60 to 90 when it comes to rating.
So...the range of all games in general?

>Another game where once you get bored of the combat you just skip the enemies altogether and the game turns into a slightly more interactive VN
I wonder why it was received so poorly

Critics love slightly interactive VNs though. That's like their favorite genre.

Nintendo releases the exact same game over and over for decades and is praised for it. Nintendo locks DLC behind plastic statues, and gets praised for it. Nintendo charges for shitty online infrastructure and gets praised for it. Nintendo abuses the copyright system to steal ad revenue from videos, and gets praised for it. Nintendo charges upwards of $40+ for 15-30 year old games, and gets praised for it. Don't even try to pretend there isn't a free pass given to them.

>adult Nintendo fans wanted nostalgia
>reeee'd when it was different
Pathetic fucking man babies

>it seemed to have so much hype going into it
no it fucking didn't? Nobody has given a shit about this franchise since SPM.

Really bad bait

What makes it bad?
I'm a puzzle fag and maybe that's why i enjoyed the combat.
