MP1's group artwork was fun

N64 era renders in general are all fucking gold. I love that early 3D look where everything has the sort of plastic look to it. I never even grew up with that art but it just looks so charming. The Mario renders are all definitely highlights. Doesn't matter what game, they're all gold IMO.

I think the reason why they are so good is because the renders are meant to fill in the blanks in our imagination when playing the games

Al three are great, but 3 has the best boards by far. The duel mode is really fun.

That could explain it, but even Donkey Kong Country had excellent looking renders even though 2D sprite art could easily capture that same beauty at the time. Either way, those old renders and the KCL commercials just have that soul to them

2 has better boards, 3 has better minigames. 1 is a mistake and the good games were recycled into 2 and the bad ones were replaced, just ignore it.

I realize MP1 has its shortcomings but I still love it, had a fun time playing it with friends early this year, and the 1 player campaign is a great idea that should have become recurrent through the series.

I still like 1 the best. Maybe nostalgia has a lot to do with it. But something about its aesthetics and tone and mini games just really appeals to me.
