Am I dumb if I feel like blowing 200 leafbucks on modding my old GBA? I feel like GBA games are sweet, I have almost all the good ones too. Should I do it?
>IPS v2 screen
>new shell
>new buttons
>new amp for better sound
>usb-c battery charger

Nah get an analogue pocket
If you're gonna emulate, you can do that for free on your phone.
it's not emulation, it's an fpga, the transistor arrangement in the main processor literally takes the form of the host console you are playing
also it's got an amazing display for gb/gba
also
>phone
>touch screen controls
>horrible latency
>awful speaker for it on most phones
Playing on your phone sucks, too. I want a separate, dedicated thing
I built out one of these. ghosting on the screen still sucks
The GBA is not the ideal device for playing GBA games
>the transistor arrangement in the main processor literally takes the form of the host console you are playing
No it doesn't. Analog's consoles always ship with bugs the original console never had. Because they're emulating the console, not replicating it. Their "transistor level perfection" is just marketing bullshit.
Not stupid at all.
I did the same.
Now I want to do a second one with a proper sized lens/precut shell for the IPS. And a third one with AGS screen because I am deranged. But now I realize I really need a new Vita cause of all the Mira on my current one so that takes precedent.
It's a great investment, but how are you spending that much?
>new shell
>new buttons
Don't get these, most 3rd party shells and buttons feel cheap. Just modify your current shell, you can't beat the original feel. If you have to get a 3rd party shell, get a retrosix IPS USB-C shell, which is $20 usd tops.
*blocks you're path*
Is this bait?
you'd be better off getting one of those linux handhelds, i think the latest least shit one is the RG350. can go up to psx for like 80$.
Original GBA with a IPS screen is a great option, but I wouldn't waste all that money just modding 1 portable.
>buy all the modding parts.
>can't find a fucking gba on cl or facebook marketplace
>ebay prices retarded
ffs.
According to /vr/ the GBA is not retro.
I had to pay 40€ for mine. Meanwhile DSs are really easy to find, I bought a DSi XL some time ago and it's really great.
/vr/ has been debating this.
Debating it to the point where they can't go 5 seconds without debating it.
The board is less functional than Zig Forums.
Shit dpad, shit OS, shit scaling
I don't know why people keep shilling these chink handhelds
lol I couldn't even find one that cheap with shipping.
If it wasn't for the Rona I could at least just drive down to the states and get one
yeah man sounds like a cool thing to do if you love GBA that much. What are your favorite games? I grew up playing GBA, but not so much anymore. Has it kept you busy all these years?
I always had a SP, but the original is so much more comfortable, especially as an adult. More comfortable than the DS/lite as well. That alone could be worth the money. Another option you might consider is that the 3DS and its variants, and I think also the dsi, can natively play GBA roms with custom firmware. If the hardware is good enough for you, you could buy a 3DS XL instead.
Do it for the fun of it.
I don't really get the point, you can get a DS Lite for around 30-40 bucks and it'll play DS and GBA games and they'll look fantastic on the lite's screen
Don't know why GBA's are so fucking expensive these days
at least analogue pocket will have a 1600x1200 screen and therefore scale gb and gba games perfectly
:3
I'd say go for it if you're more of an enthusiast and still want to be able to do link cable shit.
because modding. It's fun in and of itself.
My bet is the next overpriced fad will be Gamegear.
>Want to get the CleanAmp and the capacitors and hum erase circuitboard
>But the CleanAmp and capacitor kits are out of stock
>Retrogaming has their amp available
>Dunno if that's compatible with the PureSilence circuitboard though
I wish I was better and computer engineering
Can anybody tell me how to get into this if I'm a novice?
I will never not be mad about this.
there are a couple good tutorial on youtube about it, should be easy to find
Thanks user
someone made this image, imagine losing your time to make this, i don't get it
I already bought it stop shilling please
>imagine losing your time to make this, i don't get it
It saves thousands of hours of typing out the same individual arguments every day for years on end with people who come to /vr/ to complain about how /vr/ needs to change
dunno, that just looks like someone sucking the dick of a rule that they can't even defend and trying to pass as a chad
user people on /vr/ take the sticky more seriously as devout scripture than any religious scholar takes the bible.
