Odyssey > 64 > Galaxy(1/2) > Galaxy(1/2) > Sunshine

Odyssey > 64 > Galaxy(1/2) > Galaxy(1/2) > Sunshine.
This isn't even a question; Odyssey and 64 control the best, but the two Galaxy games have better levels than 64. But Sunshine is just awful in every aspect.

64 is the best one
Sunshine can be a lot of fun but gets bogged down by blue coin filler
Galaxy games are great spectacles but the gameplay is only okay
Odyssey has great movement but ends up being boring due to how worlds and objectives are structured

64 > Odyssey > Galaxy > Galaxy 2 > 3D World > Feces > 3D Land > Sunshine

FACT

fpbp

Odyssey feels so souless for some reason. I finished the main part and never went back to complete the new maps or secrets.

>Sunshine can be a lot of fun but gets bogged down by blue coin filler
Honestly, I don't even dislike the blue coin memes that much. I'm just set off by how garbage it feels to control compared to 64, it seriously feels like they took a step back.
Furthermore, i'm being filtered by 100 coin missions. Why the fuck do they A: exist & B: have so little coins in missions? This is just retarded. it's not fun to collect coins in Sunshine.
>Galaxy games are great spectacles but the gameplay is only okay
This. Controlling is better than Sunshine but still not as good as 64. Levels have amazing design though.
>Odyssey has great movement but ends up being boring due to how worlds and objectives are structured
I admit that the levels and objectives are kinda shitty, but I just love collecting moons in that game. I think having so many is shitty because it feels like you're getting rewarded for nothing but it's great because it feels like the adventure never ends.
Overall, I agree with most of what you said.

What was wrong with 3D Land user? for a 3DS verison of 3D world it does its job pretty well and has fun gameplay. I'll admit I haven't played it since I beat it like a week after it came out though.

64 > Odyssey > Galaxy 2 > Galaxy > 3D Land > Sunshine > 3D World
fixed

>Feces > 3D Land > Sunshine

I also kinda had this but I got 500 moons before doing this. Didn't feel soulless though; just.. kinda boring.

>but the two Galaxy games have better levels than 64
Highly debatable.
Jungle gyms > courses.

Mario should be an open world sandbox type game, not fucking linear as shit. If I wanted a linear game, I'd play Need for Speed.

64 > Sunshine > the rest

mario sunshine is the reason why nostalgia callers are retarded, if they were right I would say mario sunshine was better than galaxy or odyssey, turns out no

Great level design can make you feel like you're in a jungle gym while also feeling like the level design isn't retarded.
See: Banjo-Kazooie.

Out of all the responses I thought I might have to argue against, I never thought to read one so massively retarded as this.

Banjo Kazooie's levels are built like a theme park. Where you have various rides scattered about. With collectables in between to help guide you from ride to ride.

Sunshine felt comfy af, no other Mario game since comes close to replicating its ambience.

Why the fuck would you rate odyssey so high? That game has no challenge, all the levels are a sandbox with koroks thrown around.

>Banjo Kazooie's levels are built like a theme park. Where you have various rides scattered about. With collectables in between to help guide you from ride to ride.
user this is my entire point. It does this while also being completely open and allowing the player to explore, as well as not looking retarded thematically by having platforms scattered all over the place as like in levels like Wet-Dry-World.

The c word needs to be banned from Zig Forums

It controls so poorly though. Shines are repeated more than in 64 and the coins missions are retarded.

>That game has no challenge
Challenge ranges from "this moon is retarded" to "wow these moons were incredibly easy". But the game with all of it's collectibles isn't easier or harder than 64 or Sunshine or Galaxy. It's just standard Mario difficulty.
>all the levels are a sandbox
This is how 3D mario should be

because it's fun

I had no issues with controls. I also don't have issues with Sonic Adventure 1's controls.

>I also don't have issues with Sonic Adventure 1's controls.
Well, okay then. I still point to my other criticism of filler shines that repeat more than 64 and coin missions that are all retarded.

I didn't nmreally notice it much, or, rather, it didn't bother me. The main draw for me is the atmosphere, so staying in certain levels doing similar shines wasnt a detriment.

Galaxy, Galaxy 2 and to a lesser extent, Odyssey, felt very forgettable for me.

It's not true exploration when everything is neatly sectioned off. You can't get creative in those sterile environments, because there isn't enough chaos to allow you to experiment. You just get in line, and do the moves they require you to do and then leave.

You know, they found that kids actually have more stimulating time playing on scattered unformed playgrounds? They give kids a bunch of materials to build their own things. Wood planks, tires, boxes and other innocuous junk. And what they find is that kids spend more time exploring and arranging the junk and making their own play devices, while abandoning the sterile plastic safe playground.

They're not as bright and happy looking and clean as other playgrounds. But they're far better for play. That's Mario 64. Miyamoto always says that he wants players to make their own stories. And he managed to achieve that with the roughness of Mario 64.

This is a fair answer user. I respect your decision more now.

All I'm saying is that it doesn't have to be either playground or direct course. Banjo Kazooie feels like it has a balance between the two.

>Banjo Kazooie feels like it has a balance between the two.
It's not. It's a third and worst thing. None of the creative potential of a playground. None of the constant satisfaction from a streamlined course.

Odyssey is a good game but also the worst in comparison. Boring as fuck compared to the others.
