Does Zig Forums mod their consoles?
Just installed an openxenium modchip in my OG xbox. Working like a treat.
And yes, a hard mod is needed for the xbox, either a modchip or TSOP flash.

No its not because I did both of mine with a copy of splinter cell, an IDE hard drive, and an old dos computer. Both xboxes softmodded.
And what happens in a few years when your locked HDD dies and your DVD drives goes with it?
hardmodding lets you put in any drive regardless of its ability to be locked, and you don't need external media to format the drive. After that you just FTP a dashboard and your games.
Softmodding literally takes more work too kek. It took me like 20 minutes to solder in the LPC headers and the D0 wire, and that was my first ever soldering job.
You have to open the machine up to pull the clock cap anyway.
Remember having to fuck with your PSP battery? That always freaked me out.
Making pandora batteries made men out of boys that couldn't afford new games.
I remember reading on gamefaqs that you didn't have to buy a new battery and you could just draw the trace back in with a pencil after you installed cfw.
my fucking face when it worked
graphite does make good connection traces.
Same thing that happens if the original OEM hard drive goes, the box is locked and you throw it in the trash. I guess in that instance the modchip is superior because it overrides the bios and lets you use any hard drive.
I did mine the hard way, hot swapping the OEM drive to a DOS pc after the xbox unlocked it, using Hexen to pull the key, swapping the new drive in, swapping them back, etc. It was a pain in the ass and I did it twice.
One time I accidentally locked my 120GB drive trying to do this, the hard drive key wouldn't unlock it, so I had to pay for a third party program on the internet to low level format it so I could start over. That worked and its still in my OG xbox to this day.
yeah i fucked up on my first one because i did what the instructions told you not to do and made a connection between 2 pins and fried it i guess.
had a spare battery so got it on second try.
lmao nigga just TSOP flash or install the damn chip
what the fuck are you doing
curious, what guide did you follow? I might fix mine up as well.
if only you could mod in some gmaes to play
There was a time when the modchip for the xbox was like $200, I had all the equipment laying around since my hobby is old windows computers and it looked like a technical challenge. Unlike I didn't solder any serial wires to dump the flash or any of that shit, I took a look at doing that for the 360. Fuck that noise. The hotswap trick for stealing the HD key actually takes about five minutes if you know how to read.
For installing openxenium? It's literally 3 steps. Solder in the LPC header, run a wire between the chip and D0 to the specific via on the board and flash in a bios.
After that you have a completely future-proofed xbox. Check out the Openxenium github.
Fuck you the xbox is amazing. Playing the best version of beyond good and evil at 480p with a locked 60fps alone makes it the best 6th gen console.
That's still a softmod, read my fucking posts.
That's a lot of storage to dedicate to bloodborne.
Were you saying something, motherfucker?
I know what it fucking is goobernuts, I've done the softmod a shitload of times. And I know how to solder a modchip. My point is that the old softmod method isn't that hard if your not a retard. It's the way we had to do it before modchips were cheap.
It's pointless effort and doesn't extend the life of the console at all.
Putting a 300GB hard drive in the OG xbox with a custom dashboard that I can FTP to and dump games in there pretty much does.
Softmodding is non-reproducible without an HDD that supports locked (getting harder to find on SATA drives) and a DVD drive that works well enough to read burned disks. The latter is a component that's almost 20 years old now.
What about this isn't getting through your thick fucking skull, you retarded monkey?
Says the faggot that pays $200 for a chinese modchip for a 20 year old console. If I had to do it again I would use a modchip, for the time I had to use the tools that were available. They worked pretty well so I'm not complaining.
its 10-20$ on ebay you absolute chimp. It's 2020 if you haven't noticed.
no it's not. most softmod.
i'm sure your mommy is very proud of you but you can just keep the original hard drive as a backup after you clone it.
>getting harder to find on SATA drives
since when? i've always heard the opposite.
>and a DVD drive that works well enough to read burned disks.
what do you need it for? i didn't need mine when i softmodded besides hotswapping it with the 2TB hdd i was moving to.
Your getting pretty assblasted right now when all I've done is suggested that the traditional softmod was pretty easy. You're also pretty mean so I'm going to request the jannies watch your posts from now on in case you use any bad language.
>expecting a 20 year old IDE drive to continue functioning.
You need it to install CHIMP and hexen for the drive swap.
No one needs HDDs to lock, barely any drives support it anymore. It's a fucking pain in the ass to find one now.
It's easy because it was meant for smoothbrains like you that just wanted to play halo for free.
I'm future-proofing my console because the xbox has a fuck ton of games that will never get ported off.
you have no idea what you're talking about. i installed chimp on a softmod before you were born.
you absolutely need a working dvd drive for a softmod. nobody has IDE ports on their PC anymore.
What a fucking spastic holy shit.
CFW'd Vita with SD2Vita, it's now my everyday carry
based vita bro
Do you have more fun tinkering than actually playing video games?
Halo is gay, its all about installing ninja gaiden black and running it from the hard drive. And you aren't futureproofing shit, your xbox could still die tomorrow because the motherboard on it is old as fuck.
>a hard mod is needed for the Xbox
Any reason for this? I've had a softmod with a hard drive swap for years and it works great.
You fucking dipshit you clone the hard drive, upgrade to a newer HD, and replace it when you need to.
I saved an image of the OG hard drive so I can write it to a new hard drive anytime I want.
If for some reason the supply of small size disk based hard drives EVER dry up, inevitably solutions for using a flash card replacement will emerge.
I’ve got a stage 3 clutch on my n64
Is it worth getting a WiiU with its softmod?
