Somebody redpill me on the Halo MCC, I've never played any Halo game.
>I'm aware Halo:CE is buggered on it, I want to buy the original version instead of waiting bc it seems like that'll take 343 awhile to get to. >Halo 3 (and maybe ODST, I dunno?) has some hit registration issues they're also looking into. What about everything else? Halo Reach seems to be pretty much perfect on MCC, but does Halo 2 have any weird quirks or glitches - even minor, like lighting or anything? I've been told it had some sorta audio issues, maybe? Do Halo 3 and ODST have any other issues aside from the hit reg. glitch? I don't care about Halo 4.
They're all fine, but there are a lot of little things that make it shit that 343 could've easily prevented if they put thought into it
i.e.
Campaign-coop lobbies are peer-to-peer connection so if your friends are not near your state/country, their connection will be dogshit
There's no map veto or any map vote system
The change-team button in custom lobbies is really hidden and a pain in the ass to find
The host can't force-switch players to teams so it takes an eternity for everyone to switch
The host can't kick players mid-game if there is an afk player, shithead, etc
Getting classic Halo custom maps is really confusing and not easily accessible
The chat-log is horribly implemented and is often bugged out.
Overall it's really just pretty mediocre, but it will scratch your Halo itch with friends for sure.

this, the atrocious UI is easily the worst thing about MCC and since it's the gateway to every aspect of every game, it's a big problem. I don't know you even get that fucking bad at designing menus
William Hill
I agree. Its level of retardation is multiplied by the fact that half the things on that list were put in the original games correctly by Bungie. 343 are actual retards
Thomas King
Pirated it a week ago and all campaigns are fine. No idea about multiplayer, will definitely buy next sale.
Lucas Russell
Oh, that's a shame to hear. At the very least I'm playing the Xbone version, and I don't pay for Live, so if I ever did play multiplayer Halo it'll have to be local (unless they eventually make MCC have free online like Infinite will). I mainly got Halo for the singleplayer, honestly.
And guys like, yeah I know all the games in the MCC are fine, I'm specifically asking for nitty-gritty details and stuff, because it's next to impossible to find this information online for some reason.
Lincoln Cox
I can't get Halo CE co-op to work, but it seems to work fine on everyone else's machine :^)
Wyatt Garcia
halo 2 doesn't really have any big issues, the credits are missing and loading screens in between levels are totally jarring and really take you out of it, and they kind of spoil the next level so i would just get project cartographer for h2. yeah the biggest problem with h3 is the hit reg but dont count on that actually getting patched, in there video where they show their patch in action there were litteral no regs, and the change wont fix anything like ghost melees or double reloads since all they did was make the first bullet go faster. but honestly if you're just playing campaigns its fine. h3 is bc on xbone so if you want like, a pure experience do that.
Thanks user. Is this also an issue for Halo 3 ODST, or just Halo 3? Since the former's built off the other. I already ordered Halo 1 and 2 which'll hopefully come soon, but since Halo 3 is being actively investigated I think it'll be fair enough to assume it'll be worth it to just wait(?)
Blake Phillips
well odst doesn't have pvp so im pretty sure it's fine, the pve netcode works differently than pvp so i dont think the hit reg issues translate.
Audio got fixed and the Halo 2 bugs I know of like no dual wielding elites also got fixed. The version of Halo 1 in the MCC is basically the same as the existing PC version of Halo 1, only the original Xbox version is "flawless". Reach still has the issue with game logic running at 60hz with no interpolation so it looks like a stuttery mess if you play it at a high refresh rate but it works fine otherwise.
All in all, I'd say MCC is probably the best way to pay through the Halo series right now, and will be definitely if they fix the worst issues still present. High FPS and good mouse controls beat having better graphics in Halo 1. Soon we're also getting customizable view models which will go a long way in making the games look better on PC.
With that said to answer your question, there's only very few things wrong with the indivual ports. Most people's issues have to do with the menu/UI/networking tying the packagw together, with the specific way matchmakling playlists works and the like.
As far as the actual ports:
- CE infamously is missing a few visual effects: Transparency shaders are a little borked on some objects, like fog not being as intense or the energy on jackal's shields not animating right. More notably, bump mapping doesn't display unless there's a dynamic light on it, like from your flashlight. I honestly think the former isn't nearly as big a deal as most people make it out to be, and even the later isn't something you'd know is a problem if nobody told you.
I honestly don't think it's severe enough to hold off on playing CE/playing the original instead, especially since those visual issues are on the oriiginal PC port, too. The OG Xbox Huege version is the only way to avoid it, with the MCC port actually fixing a few shader issues and animation problems the original PC port had.
- Reach is likewise has some improperly scale postprocessing effects. This means stuff like fog, rain, lighting bloom, the glare from flames, etc isn't as intense as it was on 360. Again, this really isn't a huge deal, it's not applying to such a degree it ruins the mood of any scene or anything.

Originally Reach and to a lesser extent H3 also has busted audio compression that lowered sound quality a lot, but this was mostly fixed as of the last major update.,
in H3, yes, hit registration is somewhat borked, and it exacerbates existing issues H3 has with the BR (which is your main, go to mid range gun), where it's got annoyingly high spread and low projectile speeds, so it makes the BR feel even more inconsistent then usual. However, this is really only a big issue in MP and even then as a new player you are unlikely to notice it much.

Those are the main things which stick out to me as bugs that are both on the console and PC release of the MCC ports. If you want PC specific issues, I highly reccomend checking out Digital Foundry's video on each PC port, and GeneralKid's videos of what's been messed up, fixed, or changed in each PC port too. Both can be easily found on PC, though keep in mind a lot of the more severe issues noted in these were fixed, such as CE's audio problems
Basically, the MCC ports of each game is still the definitive way to expierence each game, with the resolution and framrate bump making up for minor visual issues mostly on Reach and CE, which (CE's bump mapping aside) really aren't a huge deal. However, it IS also worth noting that the new graphics mode in CE does change the visual design a lot, to the point of outright ruining the atmosphere on specific areas (most notably the mission "343 guilty spark"), so you are best off mostly sticking to the old graphics in CE if you wanna see the game as originally released (bump mapping issues aside), at least for that mission. H2's new graphics are generally much more faithful (though there's 2 specific spots were music tracks get entirely replaced in the new graphics mode due to liscensing issues, namely in the Banshee dogfight section of "The Arbiter" and when Cortana says "You might Wanna sit this one out" on the mission "Gravemind")

cont:
There's problem a few other super minor things i'm forgetting, but that's pretty much all the shit i'd say is worth noting. There's also this list of CE issues that impact high level competitive play here: reddit.com/r/halo/comments/ffz3ny/halo_ce_on_mcc_an_indepth_lesson_on_how_mccce_is/ but it's really not a big deal for a nnew player or even 99% of expierenced Halo fans.
OH, Actually, there is one more thing worth noting which is that beyond the new graphics mode for CE/2 and the improves resolution/framerates for the others, some games also have extra options for the map editors or more customization ptions compared to the original releases. The H2A MP is also it's own new thing unique to MCC (though the original H2 MP is included too).
>There's no map veto or any map vote system MCC used to have map voting but then everybody voted for the same shit every time and it got removed because people hated it.
I really don't think it's worth the hassle to play CE and 2 just to avoid the minor issues they (and even then only really CE even has any, I'm a turbo autist for 2 and I can't think of anything really wrong with it on a technical level... some exploits like superbounces are harder to pull off on MCC and the original PC port due to the higher tick rate, I guess?) have.
Especially since as noted, the OG PC ports of both games have all the same issues MCC has and then extra ones since MCC at least fixed a few. If you DO wanna go full purist for those games, you need to play CE on the OG xbox, or download the Project Cartographer restoration overhaul for H2's PC port... again, though, I'd just play them via MCC if I were you.
Anthony Nguyen
Halo 2 is still tremendously fucked, what are you talking about.
People don't talk about 2s problems as much as CE's but they definitely exist, they're just a lot harder to fix. Here's Cairo Station on OG Xbox, all the ports since make it way flatter youtube.com/watch?v=b-yc3_Kjb9c&feature=emb_title
3 and to a lesser extent Reach are decent by shitty console port standards (high framerates suck cock in Reach, settings are non-existent, mouse aim is shit effects don't scale, etc.), 1 and 2 are actual dick based on older terrible outsourced ports.
Gabriel Cox
Hey, big thanks for the super in-depth writeup user, it helped alot. I'm not a PC player and I was planning on picking up an OG Xbox someday anyways, so playing the originals with a controller isn't that big a deal to me. I think I'll still stick with the plan of waiting for Halo 3 to get fixed in MCC instead of buying the original, but I might pick up all the original releases regardless, someday. Good to hear 3 and (potentially) ODST only have the hit reg issue mainly, so again since that's something they're actively working on I think it'll get fixed by the time I finish the first two campaigns (and if not I think it'll be ignorable enough to play through just fine; but then again Halo 3 is cheap af). Anyways thanks again for laying all that out, now I know what kinda stuff to be looking for in upcoming patches.
Xavier Barnes
Wow that looks pretty horrible. I never noticed until now though because unlike Anniversary CE, Anniversary Halo 2 graphics actually look like an improvement most of the time so I just leave it on.
Currently in Halo 3 >Shoot someone with a tank >Huge fucking explosion right at their face >They're still standing and laser you I hope their office burns down
Julian Cooper
does anyone know what the fuck the "graphics option" does in MCC? the only thing i've seen it change is making the multiplayer customization screen blurrier, and changing the draw distance in reach and absolutely nothing else
Luis Williams
the graphics option is basically exclusively draw distance
Robert Fisher
Lock the framerate to 30 then like the original and the problem goes away. There are a lot of reasons to complain about MCC but this is the first one that is a genuine technical hurdle that's understandable for them to be having trouble with.
Camden Bennett
>all the ports since make it way flatter You mean they turn down the shitty low res bump mapping every game from that era had?
Thomas Reyes
Halo 3 MCC multiplayer is trash compared to the og halo 3 mp
Nathaniel Hall
Locking to 30fps doesn't do anything I already tried. It's the tick rate on the dedicated servers that's the problem. 343 are fucking retarded SJW faggots.
Jordan Jackson
Fixed the issue for me, maybe the issue is just that you're bad at hitting things. Which honestly is a tragic problem to have since it sounds like that's probably your go to solution when you get mad.
Tyler Scott
i just want to turn off motion blur in 3, why does 343 have to be so incompetent maybe i should consider myself lucky that MCC doesn't corrupt the boot loader on my system, or cause my GPU to catch fire
1. All games share same menu which looks like mobileshit. 2. Both CE and 2 are based of PC ports which are inferior to Xbox originals. 3. If you don't plan on playing co-op there is no reason to get MCC CE. PC Custom edition with mods gives you near original quality. You can even have high fps with animation interpolation. 4. CE aniversary graphics are shit. Inaccurate and models lifted from Reach. 5. 2 Anniversary looks good, but 100% accurate. Pre-rendered cutscenes are nice, but aniversary Miranda Keys looks like granny.
Christian Young
Lol no. The game doesn't behave like og halo 3 the devs even said so. What method did you use to do 30fps lock?
