some human kids play a mecha mmo, then accept a new story mission to protect a planet called 'eldora' and its kemono civilians from enemy mechs
however it turns out its not a story mission, but real life, eldora is a real planet 30 light years away from earth and eldoran tech accidentally awoken by the kemono in the op connected across space and interfaced with the mmo on earth, and summoned the mmo players through projecting them and their mecha from nanoparticles

if they die in eldora they die for real, and if they fail to protect the citizens those deaths are real too
meanwhile they struggle with their own issues, like one being a sapient ai, another having killed his best friend, and so on

its pretty good

sounds kinda fucked up and sad to hear possibly cute animal creatures getting killed but still vaguely interested

That first poster hasn't watched the show. A town did get nuked, or more specifically killsatted by a superlaser on Eldora's moon. One previous MMO player came to Eldora before the protagonists, but got captured by the enemy and mind controlled into being his permanent enforcer, which caused his body on Earth to go into a coma.

The protagonists spent an episode specifically beating the shit out of him and breaking the mind control, after which he promptly asked them to kill him because he already killed so many innocent Eldorans and can never take that back. They deny this request, telling him to live on for their sake. Waking up back on Earth, he's damn near suicidal.

A better question would be, why would they design it like that? It doesn't look cool, is kinda revealing if you think about it, you can even see he is not wearing underwear.

Yeesh and you guys said this is a kids show? Sounds kinda fucked up to me. Maybe I haven't sat down and watch any kids show recently. Trauma and suicide seems a bit up there to me.

If you just want a happy-go-lucky Gundam show then watch Gundam Build Fighters. It's essentially Custom Robo: The Anime and is a ton of fun.
