This thing was magical

>Open to one of the most inviting game UIs ever. The ambient music, organizing the "channels", etc.
>Best virtual console selection of games ever
>Wii Shop Channel in general
>Motion controls were fun as fuck. I liked Wii Sports/Resort, Wii Fit and Warioware Smooth Moves.
>Weather Channel was the most calming thing ever
>Making Miis were fun and had a purpose other than being an avatar
>Your family actually wanted to play this console with you
>Fully backward compatible with GameCube games
>No More Heroes and Rhythm Heaven Fever on the same console
>Crazy amount of games and tons of hidden gems
>Last phenomenal 3D Mario Game released (Galaxy 2)
>The little intro things when you select your game from the disc channel
>Mario Kart Wii Online
>IR pointer controls are still unmatched in precision. Still the best way to play FPS games other than kbm.
>Last great Nintendo console for local multiplayer games

The Wii was magical. The last few years of its life could have been better, but those first 3-4 years were phenomenal. Did you have one of these? Did you like it?

Never had a Wii.

Mine is still plugged in. Use it for all the retro games I missed out on.

It's also great for modding, they're dirt cheap and you can play Wii and Gamecube games natively, as well as emulation for a bunch of other consoles

>tfw we will never get a newer, more powerful Wii
It's a gem for sure.

user, if you had a switch at the same age as when you had a wii, you'd feel the same about the switch.

hmmmmmmmmmm..........

the wii and wii u were based af

Retrospect has indeed treated the console nicely. It was a pretty good console even with it focusing so much on the casual audience. That said, it still did have its apparent flaws and left some repercussions that would linger into the following generation and, in some cases, even the present.

Ye I had one. You're spot on OP, this thing was really good. Maybe the best console ever.

>Motion controls were fun as fuck
Maybe for a handful of games. For most others, they felt needlessly tacked on. Navigating the ui by having to waggle sucked. Best part about it was how hackable it was.
Favorite wii game?

not OP but no. Switch is soulless, literally has nothing, online is paid, controllers are drifting like shit. Garbage console. And yes, I have one.

I've been buying Wii games lately that I didn't bother with about a decade ago. I've had a lot of fun with Sin and Punishment 2 and am waiting for my copy of The Last Story to come in. Gonna replay No More Heroes 2 soon as well, amazing game.

Get cursed mountain

>Can be modded to run gamecube games 1:1 with ability to use gamecube peripherals
>Can be modded to run nes snes genesis and other retro consoles flawlessly and can be playes using classic controllers
>staple titles from n64 library are playable close to perfectly with revised classic controller layout

the fucking wii/wii u are phenomenal consoles once modded
whats different in gameplay between wii and ps2? i assume wii has waggle support, is it fun?

What's it about?

>best console for homebrew
Don't forget that one
Pure, fucking, cozy. Played so many games for the first time thanks to that, including the mother series

I think it's set in the past. You're this dude that is looking for his brother but you happen to enter some Himalayan village at the wrong time. It's a nice simple survival horror adventure.

The Switch can't do half of what the Wii was known for, and none of its UI measures up.

Is it still possible to play physical Wii games on it or do they need to be updated? The Wii shop is shut down

>wii u
Come on, son

Also modding scene is still on going with dedicated autists will updating homebrew.
Wii u is an upgrade overall desu. Most due to better hardware and you can do everything a Wii can with it nodded but at better performance.

The Wii wasn't like PS3 or 360. Games didn't come out buggy as fuck requiring day 1 patches. Just plug and play.

I had one back then but I never used it beyond finishing Mario Galaxy. I want to set it up for emulators now but I lent my friend my only remote so fuck it I guess.

The motion controls were overrated, only the IR aiming at the screen worked well. The motion controls were gimmicky wagglan until Nintendo introduced Motion Plus.

The A/V output is worse. Say what you want about resolution, but the Wii U does not have the ports the Wii has.

Modding and hacking a console to play the game's of yesteryear? You'll want the right t.v. for that, too.

Worked fine for me.

You can play every physical Wii game without even needing to be connected to the internet. No patches needed.

I'm gonna agree with these guys. I have a switch but it's soulless as fuck. The Wii had personality.

Uhh

> Navigating the ui by having to waggle
????
You're not one of those "all motion is waggle" retards are you? Waggle means "shake where a button would've worked".

I remember using the internet browser on the thing just to hear the jingle. Every time I would let the whole animation play out before hitting start.

I never got around to buying a Wii U, and now I have no way to play Xenoblade Chronicles X and HD ports of the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Feels bad man.

Honestly I found the a/v better on the WiiU over the Wii mostly because I could never get the full resolution out of Muramasa until I played it on the WiiU while nothing I could do would give me a proper frame with the Wii.
I do love the fact I can actually get a good resolution out of GC games without coughing up over $100 for something on my GC.
