you want a serious answer? it has a unique, charming visual and musical identity, and gameplay that was baked into that identity, that's very easy to understand but takes some thought to master, which is rewarded heavily. it also has quirky internet writing paired with anime girls, and then it's MC was the first smash bros ultimate DLC so suddenly a very wide audience had their attention on it.

TL;DR, it had nice gameplay and a lot of polish.

It's really, really good. Also stylish game ever, I wish more games would commit to an aesthetic as hard as it does. There are a few that have as well as Persona 5, but it's definitely not the norm.
