How do we fix the fighting game genre?

get a small square drywall of appropriate thickness and spackle, some furrings, scouring tool, a short saw to cut a square hole, mesh nettings, paint chips to match the paint and then the paint itself (a sample size will do just fine) with appropriate paint kit and then you throw them at your mischievous kids who ruined the wall in the first place and tell them if they don't have it fixed by the next morning they're gonna get tossed off a bridge for fucking the value of your house

They can be good at fighting games because there isn't a lot going on in their heads. Gives them a clarity most people won't have.

Project L will probably make money hand over fist because it will appeal to the lowest common denominator. That usually bombs out for fighting games though, so it'll be neat.

THIS. Rewarding bad players who were getting outplayed the whole round with a random chance of hitting a big-damage super is retarded. Imagine if other genres did this. In FPS games you suddenly get a giant death gun just for being killed over and over. In racing games your car transforms into a lightspeed dreadnought when you repeatedly lag behind in laps. Comeback mechanics are bullshit.

Does it need fixing? I don't play fighting games but as far as I hear people are still playing and enjoying them.

I thought so. I don't enjoy them myself but the genre doesn't seem dead like arena shooters, there's still new games coming out, ways to play old games.
Honestly they probably shouldn't change the games to try and make them more accessible to people like me because I'll still probably not play them.

That's the gist. People always go on about how they would play if they removed x so a game will come out which removed x and nobody plays it. Then when you point that out they go oh well it's cause of y so then a game removes y and they still don't.

remove comeback mechanics
remove the idea that aggressive play is the only true way to play fighting games and reward a great defense as well

Like, I certainly don't mind people making games about fighting that aren't traditional fighting games; despite not liking fighters For Honor is one of my favourite competitive multiplayer games, and I like it because it isn't just trying to be a simplified traditional fighter.
