even though i never had a pc to game on as a kid, they became my favourite games of all time (although i play multiplayer more often)
I remember playing doom and doom 2 as a team basically because i could never run anything and was bored.
I remember being very surprised just how engaging and immersing it was, especially the levels with all their switches and secrets and stuff. Shits great and timeless.
Besides the gluesniffing high of fragging some asshole sky high while running at mach 5 speed is one, but trying to break the game and actually being rewarded with a secret for your autism is best game feel.
>as a team
*as a teen
I think they're relics of a bygone era and there's a reason that very few people remember them, and it's that they're all pretty much the same game reskinned for like five years until Half-Life came along
I recognize Duke, Lo, and Bombshell, but who’s the vampire?
Caleb from Blood. Not a vampire though.
I live again.
Grew up playing Wolf 3D with my Dad, and never looked back. I can play nothing but the classic FPS games the rest of my life and never get bored, that's how much I love this style of gameplay. I love the simple, but addicting gunplay. I love the fast movement and sprawling level designs. I love how the episodic, level-by-level structure allows you can just hop on a mission or two whenever you want, with it's instant immersion thanks to solid sound and level design. It's a beautiful thing.
Doom, Duke, Blood, Quake, RTCW, I could go on and on.
>Young Wang
I miss when he was a badass old man.
Insanely based due to the playerbases for these games making new map add-ons, weapons, and enemy types for the modding scene, something you don't see much of anymore.
is this a general in disguise?
HOLD IT
It's time to claim your trophies.
Favorite 2.5D?
Favorite 3D?
Favorite multiplayer?
And just for the sake of it, favorite of the recent revival shooters?
>Zig Forumstards are interested to talk about good retro fps games

HUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRR ITS A FUCKING GENERAL JANNIES, THEY ARE DELETING MY HOME SMASH THREADS!
Who cares? Atleast people are actually discussing stuff.
NO NO NO
Cultural Phenomena ONLY
HELP ME JANNIE MOMMY!
I think this is an attempt to get an fps board.
>2.5D
Always Doom even though Duke 3D and Blood are superior from a technical stand point. But nothing feels better than playing mods with my bros on Zandronum
>3D
Quake 3, or Quake 1. But just playing Quake 3 is such an adrenaline rush. Despite the fact that it's relatively impossible for newcomers to really stand a chance online. I've played it forever and I still suck ass.
>multiplayer
Quake 3
What? I like talking about old school FPS, I liked the last thread. It was fun, I have no one else to talk to about this stuff.
>2.5D
Quake 1, hands down
>3D
probably RTCW or Half Life 1
>multiplayer
I really miss CS:S, Killing Floor, and MW2, I don't really play multiplayer shooters anymore
>recent revival
DUSK, hands down
>favorite 2.5D
All of them.
>favorite 3D
>favorite multiplayer
All the Quakes and Return to Castle Wolfenstein
>favorite recent revival shooter
Dusk
are the Shadow Warrior reboots good? I heard they were shit
The first is good. The second depends if you tolerate Borderlands-like looting and shifting maps.
The first one is solid, if you like the arena style FPS.
The second one went too far in on the Borderlands-esque looter gameplay loop.
DooM
Oof, Quake, or Quake 2 specifically was nostalgic? (shouldn't be on this list but F.E.A.R. i played a lot)
Multiplayer is QC:DE and whenever QC was working properly because the playerbase was thriving at the time (never lived through the release of any other game)
So my favourite 3D game might actually be DUSK the revivival shooter. I absolutely adored this game.
Amid evil at first i didn't like, but when i chose to jump into the purple arcane level i warmed up to it. Reminded me of the good parts of Heretic and Unreal 1, both of wich i didn't enjoy entirely.
Yes and that's unironically a good thing.
Blood
Fear
Tripes 2
DUSK

Zig Forums has always been the containment board.
Depends on the game, some hold up tremendously well, while others just feel dated. I played Blood for the first time last week, and it still feels pretty good to play and is a solid game overall. However, trying to go back and play Doom unmodded right after, made Doom feel incredibly shallow and dated as hell.
But then I went and started Quake and it still feels fantastic to play.
does your dad still like them?
his dad died in ww2 user
anon never even existed
