Pokemon lore before gen 2 is basically non-canon at this point.
The original game and series had references to America, Hollywood, Japan, Guyana/South America.
So the Pokemon continents were just extra continents that existed.
After gen 2 those places are never reference again and all the regions are inspired by real places.
Makes no sense.
