seriously, how do you guys play through this game and enjoy it? The gameplay is so dull and a literal snoozefest. I've heard the game is good but the gameplay is just too boring for me
Witcher 3

it's a meh game but 2015 sucked in general
It's a literal "play with a friend" game where you talk to someone between cutscenes
pay attention and youl have a good time
if you play it like an mmo you have only yourself to balme
>if you play it like an mmo you have only yourself to balme
might be the reason why, every time I've played i just rush through kinda....
I found the durability thing really fucking annoying desu, I might give the game another try but get a durability mod or something idk
Play with the No Levels mod, seriously fixes just about everything gameplay-wise
Might be a dumb question, but there's only one right?
>nexusmods.com
It's this one. There's a list of all the changes, and you can choose which ones you want in the config. Although if you do use this, I recommend not installing any durability mods. It's part of the balancing that fancier weapons and armor cost more to maintain
>It's part of the balancing that fancier weapons and armor cost more to maintain
Thank you, user! I'll try a new run with the No Levels mod!
The game is part of a long series of books and two more games spanning over a decade of in-universe time. You cannot judge The Witcher 3 excluding these other mediums and excluding the story, which is the main focus, of the game.
I have played 1 and 2, but not seen the show or books. Yes 1 has shitty combat too, but I played it back when I didn't have a better PC. 2 I found pretty fun
Go for it bro, I'm doing my second playthrough with it and having a blast, it feels like a completely different game without the retarded MMO-style levelling system. I can actually explore without running into a level 40 monster in a level 10 area and getting instakilled, and what you find from exploring those areas is actually useful gear. Monster contracts are tough no matter when you acquire them, and proper preparations beforehand are pretty much mandatory now instead of optional. Drinking the right potions, using the right oil, even sharpening your sword at the grindstone which basically makes no difference in the vanilla game gives you a noticeable edge. I got killed by a nightwraith early in the game after getting it down to 30% health because I went into the fight on autopilot (I lost maybe two fights in the entire game my first time around, on the second highest difficulty), tried again after making the proper preparations and just because of that I managed to kill it the second time around. Makes you feel like a witcher instead of a superhero when the reason you won the fight was because of prep.
Witcher 2 > Witcher 3
>retarded MMO-style levelling system.
fucking hated this desu. And the preparation thing isn't really worth even on death march when you get back to do a contract you're most likely overleveled or something. Sounds like the mod might make the game more into what I look for, where it focuses on preparation and planning rather than flat numbers.
It's not part of the mod, but I also installed Complete Animations just for the eating and drinking animations. This way, if I get caught off-guard by a monster it's actually a problem like it should be since I can't just immediately pop some potions and I'm all good. I need to fend it off first to get a couple of seconds of respite, since I can't take any other action besides moving whilst drinking.
I'll look into that one too, sounds good.
Some of the code does conflict with No Levels, so use Script Merger to take care of that if you decide to get it. Should be using that after you install any mod really, just in case.
Witcher 3 combat while being boring at least functions correctly.
try to role play
I prefer the Projekt Red dev's original mod that makes eating food heal slower but over a longer time-frame than potions.
No Levels mod changes the functionality of some potions, so Swallow basically takes that role now. Swallow potion just gives you moderate health regeneration over a long period of time (180 seconds I think), it's fast out of combat and slow but still useful in combat. This way it has a different function to White Raffard's decoction which instantly gives you a chunk of health back, whereas in vanilla they basically had the same function with Swallow being a worse version. With the mod, Swallow is something you take preemptively, to help you out just in case you do take damage, and White Raffard is something you take in an emergency, after you've taken major damage.
If you haven't read the books you barely have a grasp of what's going on. It's impossible to truly appreciate the games without having read the books first, especially the third game.
An argument could be made that the first two games are only semi-canon and/or an unreliable narration of what happened during that time period as told by Dandelion (the first game moreso than the second game).
In any case, read the books.
Agreed. 3 feels like a Skyrim mod sometimes whereas 2 was an atmospheric cohesive experience.
>tfw I bought 1 & 2 on sale, but 1 freezes my pc
>too autistic to just skip it
Pay attention to what?
The shitty generic story or the boring, repetitive combat?
Or maybe that super exciting card 'game' that somehow managed to be more boring than the shitty one from FFIX.
It's the best game of all time, its quality comes not from one system being 10/10, but from all the systems being of very high quality. It's better than the sum of its parts, and its parts are already great. You just can't name any game that is more consistently quality
>best game of all time
No.
It's competently written in an industry that doesn't value writers. That's the lesson to be taken from this and yet studios seem to think that open world works is the lesson. The charisma from Geralt is so run of the mill for any other entertainment industry but it fucking shines here because the bar is so low. To hate this game is to hate raising the bar for this dogshit industry. By no means does every game need to follow its example but off the back of slave slavs we got a game that was actually worth its price. Work smarter not harder AAA devs. Write better not longer, style not photo realism, and let gameplay lead the narrative (something TW3 fails to do). Video GAME not VIDEO game.
Witcher 3 still fails at GAME parts. There are so many flaws in it's gameplay not to mention story too. Porting saves and not having a canon storyline was a mistake.
I am still mad they removed Dice games.
Oh don't get me wrong I agree with you. I'm just saying the standards for other elements of a game are so low that it gets a good reception. They have yet to make a game with actually enjoyable gameplay but since TW2 their visuals and writing have been top notch. The second those 2 drop people will turn on them. Unfortunately they picked the first person shooter genre to hit next which tends to put emphasis on gameplay more than 3rd person rpgs.
TW3 is a step in the right direction but not nearly a perfect game.
I agree. I am more interested in Cyberpunk because it looks way more gamey than W3. I would be especially glad if they removed leveling system(progression locks) and making it more similar to Deus Ex games.
Name something better then
BoTW.

is it worth trying to emulate it?
