Random crits should be a vote. Default on, but vote to disable for that game.

This, it's obvious random crits will never go away partially because people hate Uncle Dane so just have it been in a vote system

Random crit chance scales with damage and healing. The ceiling is like 20%. Soldiers and medics seem to have the most crits because soldiers deal tons of splash and Medics do nothing but heal.

i don't like, them but instead of removing them, i'd just get rid of matchmaking and advertise community servers more, so people have more of a choice as to where they play and what they play with.

It's not random enough to make the game turn into something where you embrace randomness like Mario Kart, it's just random enough to occasionally ruin a skill based game in ways that you could never see coming

Remove matchmaking first.

Random crits are not OK when they happen when I get bad spread on scattergun and hit only 1 pellet

Remove matchmaking so people can stop bitching and just go play on a server with the option they like.
Dane is a faggot and this literally isn't true because plenty of server have implemented start-of-map RC votes and people rarely leave if it gets the one they don't want.

I've never played this garbage but competitive shooters should never have RNG elements to them. It should be as simple as possible for balance purposes.

TF2 isn't a competitive shooter. Half of the current problems with the game are because Valve started pandering to panicked compfags who thought Overwatch was going to kill the game. TF2 was primarily designed with a 12v12 semicasual playstyle in mind.

I don't know any better because i've never played it. From the very few mp FPSs that i played on PS3, i personally hate when RNG is involved to win gunfights. Crits could give a shitter a chance to win while the good player wasn't lucky to score a crit despite having superior aiming/movement/map knowledge etc. It doesn't need to be a MLGsweatfest. It can be casual without the bullshit.

Non-melee can reach a max of 12% crit chance and melee is 60% max

Why every games community always seethe at snipers? Headshots should always be 1h1k for these classes, torso 2hk and limbs 3hk. I don't play TF2 but people always seethe about snipers in every games.

To explain it to you, who's never played it:
Crits aren't entirely random. There's always a fixed crit chance, and said crit chance scales with three factors:
>How much damage the player has recently dealt
>How much damage the player's buildings have recently dealt
>How much damage the player's healtarget has recently dealt
Crits are also very visibly communicated to the player with a distinctive sound/animation/particle effect when they proc. The only time a crit will guarantee you getting gibbed is if the person who shot it was right in your face. Essentially, this means that TF2's casual side takes on this semi-strategic "risk management" factor that a lot of RPGs have, where you need to pay special attention to high-risk targets. This is even more of a factor if you're playing as the Spy, because the Spy has to be in melee range to be effective, and Melee weapons all have a maximum critrate of 30%.
I think people would hate random crits a lot less if there was a HUD indicator of your current critchance or something.

I don't play these games but OW is definitely the worst FPS i've ever seen. It caters to coomers and esports cancer and a bonus; faggots.

Even if Overwatch dies, it still undeniably did more damage to TF2 than any other TFClone. I wish Overwatch had never existed for the sole reason that we probably never would have gotten matchmaking if it didn't.

you want to fix random crits? switch them to damage taken only. that way, you don't have a faggot soldier running around with his pocket medic gibbing you from around the corner

That's fair, and honestly, another reason I think this big stupid debate over random crits showed up is because before, people would just play on servers that turned them off. Now everyone feels like they have to play fucking matchmaking and it has the usual matchmaking problem of "nobody will ever be happy with such a generic ruleset" but nobody wants to admit that matchmaking was just a bad idea.

Sniper is a black sheep class in TF2. Almost every other gun in the game functions based on damage falloff with distance, which makes most TF2 fights relatively long TTK which is where the most fun is. Sniper has 0 dmg falloff so relative to what you're used to in TF2, when you die to a sniper headshot it's a very "oh... that was 'fun' feeling" relative to dying in other fights.
