This. I never understood how the same crowd that loves Sonic Adventure 2 and Heroes can shit on this game. All of those games were fucking terrible and SA2 and Heroes are no worse than 06.

Urgh I just tried a bit of Sonic Rush and it really sucks. Terrible game.

The first level seemed okay, but then I got to the first boss.
Huge healthpool, long waits between you get to try to attack it, the platform you stand on is tiny with no indication of how close you are to the edge so you're afraid of moving around, especially when you collect the rings, which should not be collected because they are the only way to see how close you are to the edge, and then the boss has 1 hit kill attacks that are kind of hard to dodge, and if you die you have to start over and do all the long waits and chip away at its huge health pool all over again. Terrible boss design.

Then you get to the second stage, and that's where you start to see more of the core problems of the game too. It's really annoying that you can't jump on enemies. It's seemingly random whether Sonic turns into a ball or not, and only if he is a ball you can hit the enemy. Then there are the spikes, which are invisible until they suddenly appear when you land on the platform, causing unavoidable hits.
The breath timer underwater is very short, if you make one mistake, you're likely to die. It's bad when you get to slopes that you don't make it to the top of, then you have to run far back to gain speed to try again with no air, it's time consuming, you should be given air between attempts at different segments. And in general the game has too few 1 ups, so it's easy to run out of lives and you have to go back and to both parts of the stage all over again, no saving after every stage. Ugh, and the platform that just fell into the bottomless pit when you stood on it, with no indication.

MAYBE the game is fun if you can memorize every level, but it's a terrible experience of frustration when the game is using cheap tricks and inconsistency to kill you, and water levels suck in general I guess.

I think in Rush the devs wanted to encourage using the homing attack to attack enemies rather than just jumping on them like in other 2D Sonics, but most players won't even know about the homing attack's existence unless you read the manual (similar to the trick moves in Advance 2).

They also added that health bar shit from Heroes in Rush too. Why Jap devs kept thinking that interrupting the pace of a Sonic game by making you attack enemies more than once was a good idea is beyond me.
