I don't understand the pay to get new characters model at all. Doesn't it divide your userbase, which is the opposite of what you want in a fighting game?
I don't get why they would introduce Jackie Chun and then drop him. Like, that motherfucker was beating the shit out of Goku back during a time when he seemed completely unstoppable.
I mean, Goku transformed mid fight and Jackie STILL beat him. There's a mutual respect there that I don't think a lot of Dragon Ball opponents have.

I don't see how seeing as you can still play with people who own the DLC characters whether or not you have them yourself. Now the old model of re-releasing the game every other year with a handful of new characters and balance changes and making each version incompatible with each other DID divide the userbase and I'm glad it's gone.

Sure, the old model was bad too, but it at least provided you with an homogeneous experience for everybody for a set period of time. The new model makes me not want to buy the game at all.

Not really since you can still play against people using DLC characters. If things went the way they used to before, SF4 for instance, then yeah your userbase would be divided since some people wouldn't buy the new version.
It's sad that base Goku plays way closer to how I want Goku to play so I ended up buying him.
Isn't Videl the worst selling DLC character? Even in Japan she's more popular than Chi Chi by a large margin, so I dunno. I wish I had your optimism.
