You can only mod a very select model of switch that came out in a certain time frame before they re released it with better battery life

Ones that came out earlier than 2019 for the most part are moddable. If you haven't tried to do it yet but think your switch is patched I would still test and see if it truly is patched or not because it very much depends on circumstance and where you bought it since some people have been getting RCM vulnerable units as late as mid 2019.

By most recent version do you mean firmware/switch update or do you have the red box switch? If it's the latter you'll need the SX OS modchip. Latest firmware version is moddable on all older switches with worse battery life.

Switch update, I have an non red box model but as far as I know it's still a patched but if that chip works on all firmwares then I might look into it but I sorta want to wait till its Wii/3DS braindead easy

You can check if it's patched by just following the tutorials. The part that's supposed to fail on newer models is the part where you inject the payloads.
