The story is so rushed and the pacing is so bad, it's like they tried to put 999999 different plots in one game and had no time to even tell you the names of the characters. It's also ridiculous to have a WITCHER game without monsters, it was ALL about politics, not even in the books Geralt is that involved in politics and when he is he tries to leave as soon as he can, he doesn't get involved as much as he does in that game.

The game starts with him telling the king he's leaving with triss. He stays in the camps in part 2 to lift the spell. He goes to loc muine to save Triss. You make his involvement less involuntary than it was

I didn't feel that at all, then again I played the first game beforehand. Sure, some book characters I didn't know much about but there's a logbook you can read about them if you really want to. The chapters go fairly in depth too. You spend the entire third chapter removing one curse, how is that not Witcher work? What about the entire first chapter being about the Kayran?
Loc Muinne is mostly political but it still ends with a big dragon fight, again, a monster.
Then again the monsters are far from the main focus of the entire series. Just because it's the main characters job doesn't make it so.
I actually felt disappointed that 3 dropped so many plotlines from the previous games and went for so much monster work.

Short version:
Geralt is a legendary witcher (monster slayer) who was presumed dead years past. He was found but with no memory of his past. His friends (One of which was Triss the redhead) were attacked by a gang (salamandra) and he went on an adventure to defeat them. He got involved in some politics with the king and ended up saving his life by an assassin who was also a witcher. Game 2 takes place one month later

During a battle she and roach can be recruited and help you fight. She and roach also are part of a quest line to kill Radivid. It's not like she's a major character but then again she wasn't that much of one in 2. She does just enough to make a small impact on the plot and nothing more

If you fix the combat with full combat rebalance this is actually the best Witcher game. And yes, it's perfectly fine to rate a game more highly after improving the experience via modding.
