Game developer here. Was this supposed to impress me?
I think the gaming community should engage more on knowing how to make a game and developing knowledge on game design before praising a game.
Game developer here. Was this supposed to impress me?
I think the gaming community should engage more on knowing how to make a game and developing knowledge on game design before praising a game.
I think you should take your head out of your ass and make games that affect people like Dark Souls has.
>[Appealed to popularity].
The character action is slow and shallow, while having actual QTEs as a huge aspect -- defined as context-sensitive, makes-the-character-invincible-and-really-powerful options. ..The netcode was atrocious; and the "co-op" opportunities were limited to RNG matchmaking. Yet, even the PvP -- basically "consisting of simple spacing", because the mobility isn't some achievement in designs, and "some weapon abilities" -- was esteemed amongst many.
You tried to sound smart but everything you just said was complete nonsense.
"I don't believe you."
I dont know what is more annoying. The pasta itself or the fact that they dont even bother changing the thread pic.
Nah, about the only coherent thing you said was that the netcode is bad (which is is).
Every other part of your thought was just slop
>[Not a specific criticism or argument].
"Being ESL and (vaguely, poorly) judging my content isn't acceptable."
keep pounding out those movie games, movie dude.
I was judging your argument, which was poor. I don't have to provide a counter because this is site is chinese bitcoining operation. How long have you been here?
You already made this thread several times
>Game developer here
was this supposed to impress me?
Okay, I'll bite.
You claim to be a game developer. What game(s) have you developed?
Get to the point instead of bloating your critiques with meaningless jargon. Dark Souls isn't loved for it's in depth combat system and online multiplayer.
>Thinks calling something "shallow" constitutes an argument
Some of the best games ever made are mechanically shallow.
Are you aware that you appear to have actual autism?
No.
every game must be spreadsheets. I wont stop until we're all making pivot tables for fun
What kind of games do you make?
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH
>Was this supposed to impress me?
No, it's a cult series that blew up in popularity cuz it's hard and has multiplayer.
>[Appealed to extremes].
>poor
..Still not specific.
>I don't have to provide a counter
Then you failed at being relevant to the conversation (or your own attempts).
Specify how that's either bloated or meaningless..
DaS has some unique implementations, such as the way the story and item information is sorta relegated to leasts (short cinematics; etc.), but there isn't much more than the character gameplay, art, and PvP.
>best
Not specific.
embarrassing
>Shitter will never understand why Dark Souls is a masterpiece because he got filtered.
SAD.
I think you should make a good game before talking shit about people better than you.
You haven't substantiated a single one of your claims. Calling something "shallow" or "bad" is not an argument, unless you explain how these descriptions apply. The fact that you're expecting someone to seriously engage with your vacuous, non-arguments shows how terrible you are at communication, which leads me to believe that you're a terrible designer, ie: this thread is a waste of time.
>all this reddiy spacing
>tripfaggot
>all this autism
I wonder if you would respond "what do you mean by that" if I wrote "this is rich"
Actual game developer here.
Dark Souls is one of my favorite titles of all time. It's a true masterpiece and I'm glad it spawned a decade of imitators to build on the formula
>[Idiocy].
There was clearly an example posted of (e.g., "more creativity") deep action with the initial response; and you're ignoring the other specified descriptions about the gameplay also.
Starting a new paragraph because the topic is different isn't "Reddit spacing".
>[Dude got rocked, then he shitposted].
>he got filtered
What does that have to do with anything? I just said how Souls series was not made to have mass appeal but stumbled upon it on accident.
This is either good bait or literally the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. Maybe both.
I wonder if you picked up that substitute for social skills in Fallout 4.
>[utter retardation]
You're off-topic (with garbage posts).
>slow and shallow
This is a good thing. This is why people like it. It's basic but it's very satisfying to use, and it fits with a more grounded approach of combat. The different weapon movesets give a little bit of choice, and while Dark Souls 1's magic isn't the best, it still fits its purpose as a means of ranged combat.
>QTEs thing
I don't really see how else you'd implement a dodging mechanic.
>Netcode is atrocious
Agreed
>Coop limited to RNG matchmaking
That's the whole point. You might occasionally see the phantom of someone else in another world if you have a bit of luck, someone who'd be willing to help no matter who they are
>PvP
It is a little more than just simple spacing. Techniques like toggling, backstab escapes, phantom strikes etc involve a bit more than that. It's quite basic, but that's why it's so nice : spacing, risk&reward balance because you die easily, and more difficult inputs for certain situations at higher levels (for duels, that is. Invasions are a different matter altogether)
>Weapon abilities
Yeah, people like them. You don't get whacky combos etc, and DS2 and DS3 both improved on it in their own way (more movesets, and powerstancing/weapon arts for variety), but you still get a relatively wide variety of weapon types and movesets to cover different feelings, styles and situations.
By the way, you STILL haven't wrote what game you developed or worked on. You DO realise that without specifying what you worked on, your attempt at gaining authority is pointless, right?
another developer here
so much this
im adding a bunch of stuff i learned from souls games in my game that is a completely different genre
I did multiple times, though. Planet Centauri is my biggest work.
And you clearly have no idea on what you're talking about. The game being hard might be the reason why people got curious about it, but to sum down its praising to "its hard and has multiplayer" is just idiotic talk that people who obviously didn't played the game or got filtered keep parroting around.
40% yourself, tranny.
Please kill yourself. A total lack of understanding of precident assures any game you make will be utter shit.
>[Appealed to popularity].
IT'S BACK
>but to sum down its praising to "its hard and has multiplayer
Those are the biggest reasons why it got popular, yes. Hence the praise that came with it.
>gets routinely named by other devs as inspiration/influence
>spawned an entire genre
>heavily influenced a lot of third person action games after it
>even AssCreed, a franchise that is far more successful, has adopted Dark Souls lock-on system and control scheme
>has become a benchmark for game difficulty
>has become a benchmark for interconnected world/level design
>turned a small japanese studio that made mostly niche titles into a world renown AAA studio
Yeah man I am sure everyone got it all wrong except you.
>Planet Centauri
Oh. I played it. Thought that it was too open for its own good, that the dev doesnt understand what makes games good and broke it by going way further than was supposed to at some point. It all makes sense now.
>This is a good thing.
I obviously disagree; and "why people like it" wasn't evidenced / associated to similar phenomena. Furthermore, a lot of really garbage things are enjoyed by various species and demographics; that doesn't make it "quality". ..It's some of the most repetitive amongst action experiences within the gaming industry. I enjoyed Skyrim with TK Dodge more because at least it A). wasn't arbitrarily "challenging" (not that I had a problem with Capra Demon, which I completed on the second try; nor the savescumming I did for mitigating unnecessarily replaying respawns and traversal), and B). had "a world", gathering, and crafting -- plus other mods.
>>QTEs thing
>I don't really see how else you'd implement a dodging mechanic.
That's referencing backstabs and parries..
>[More garbage].
Your response wasn't immediately comprehensible. Also, you're off topic. PS: I'm a heterosexual male.
The reasons it got popular aren't related to its praising, retard.
