Is this the biggest failure ever made in gaming?
Is this the biggest failure ever made in gaming?
PS4, it had no games.
of course not. arguably nintendo's bigger failure, though
Sure but it sold over 100 million consoles
No
Sold more than the DD
who wants to watch vhs tapes on their n64
being remembered more than its competitors already proves you wrong OP
Virtual boy?
lots of people remember windows ME, you have a very poor metric for success
still sold more than the DD
It was only released in Japan and discontinued a year later.
No one in Nipland gave a fuck about the N64. Hence this shit never had any chance
Not even close
It was supposed to come out around 1997, games released in 1998 were delayed so they could be on the DD. Didn't come out til 1999.
9,000,000 > 15,000
Decent idea, but the Western industry was retarded at the time and the licensing system was dumb.
sounds fun
Still sold more than the DD.
(had better games too)
Your mom is.
Dreamcast only failed because of the 32X and Saturn. It still had a ton of support and high quality games in development when Sega pulled out.
Even the 32X and Saturn were bigger successes than the DD. The DD is a massive flop. PCFX outsold it. What's a PCFX you ask? Exactly.
Piracy and PS2 hype killed it. Not the 32x and saturn.
N64 had a handful of great titles and amazing multiplayer games so it's far from being bad.
Abominations like the 32X and virtual boy are true failures. These are prime examples of bonafide shit.
They could've held on for a year or two more if they had more money. PS2 had a ton of hype but the launch titles sucked and Sony lied out their ass about its capabilities (as always)
Honestly it even looks like a 64dd
chalk that up to all the madden idiots
Launch titles were pretty good on the PS2. It's rare that a consoles only good game is a launch title, that's what happened on the N64. Launch title games are typically decent to pretty good. Ridge Racer 5, Tekken Tag Tournament? Solid games. Within a year the PS2 had a better library than the entire n64's 6 years at that point.
>PS2 had a ton of hype but the launch titles sucked and Sony lied out their ass about its capabilities (as always)
sounds like the ps4
>Ridge Racer 5, Tekken Tag Tournament? Solid games
Decent but nothing compared to what the N64 or Dreamcast launched with. They're also just a really jaggy racing game and yet another Tekken game.
>Abominations like the 32X and virtual boy are true failures.
Still wish I had both, just for the sheer mockery of owning such niche garbage. Like how I have Super Man 64 on cart. Hilarious and worth collecting.
More than I can say for something like the N-gage. I would rather melt that thing down into a turd shaped lump of plastic than put it anywhere near my collection.
Nintendo in general its a failure
>Decent but nothing compared to what the N64
N64 literally launched with two games.
>Dreamcast launched with
Which launch? Best games in the US were soul calibur, house of the dead 2 and Powerstone. Like I said, decent to pretty good.
>has a sequel to SNES Sim City that nobody has even heard of
wii u
>N64 literally launched with two games.
One of which is better than every PS2 launch title easily.
>Which launch?
9/9/99
>soul calibur, house of the dead 2 and Powerstone
All mogs PS2's launch games hard, along with Sonic Adventure.
>Sony lied out their ass about its capabilities (as always)
>toy story visuals
Ah, memories.
>One of which is better than every PS2 launch title easily.
Maybe if it launched in 2000, but it didn't. It was old news.
>9/9/99
ok
>mogs
what? Who talks like this?
>Piracy
WRONG NIGGER
Dreamcast died to a combination of the company being in massive debt that it couldn't pull out of, a failed Japanese launch, and incoming hype from the PS2. Piracy on Dreamcast didn't ramp up until the system was dead.
>Ridge Racer 5, Tekken Tag Tournament? Solid games
Literally those and SSX were the only good launch titles. Everything else was forgettable.
>Which launch? Best games in the US were soul calibur, house of the dead 2 and Powerstone
And SA1, which aged like ass but got everyone's attention. And Ready 2 Rumble. And Hydro Thunder. And Tokyo Xtreme Racer.
>Everything else was forgettable.
>I don't know about it so it's forgettable
nah
>It was old news.
Still better than any PS2 launch title.
Meh, pretty overrated desu
No they were forgettable, also noticeably uglier than Dreamcast games released in the same year.
Oh yes, because everyone remembers Kessen and Tecmo's mediocre port of DoA2.
And maybe Evergrace because of its meme music, and that wasn't until almost a decade later because no one fucking cared about it in 2000.
The only thing overrated in this conversation is the PS2. We've reached a point where some people's nostalgia boner for the console has actually lead them to believe the launch titles were good.
PS2 launch titles look good compared with the PS4 and XB1 launch titles but at the time it was pretty shit. Tekken Jag Tournament was just a prettier version of the arcade game which itself was just an update of Tekken 3. They should have ported Soul Calibur. Ridge Racer 5 sucked and looked awful. SSX was probably the only good launch game and even that became irrelevant when they released a new version and called it a sequel only a year later.
I thought the GameCube launch sucked too but in retrospect it actually was pretty good. PS2 was shit. Dreamcast was excellent. Xbox has Halo and I’m not a fan but a lot of people liked it. I got PS2 and didn’t even play any PS2 games on it because I only had Tekken Tag and SSX and I liked PS1 games way better, it was my FF9 machine for months until MGS2 came out. By then it couldn’t fucking read CDs
Some were uglier, some were pretty nice looking. Armored Core 2 definitely was a step up in detail and lighting. SSX had better, more organic environments and the trailing snowboard effect looks great even today. I think you're selling too many games short, games you've definitely never played.
>I don't know it therefore it's not good
is there a lower IQ argument?
>If I repeat my meme arrow argument then I'm correct
is there a lower IQ argument?
>All the retards itt not realizing OP meant the 64DD and not the N64 itself
I actually own the first SSX and all the AC games on PS2. Armored Core 2 has the same aliased as shit image as every other early PS2 game. It also has massive slowdowns sometimes and when it slows down the image gets all weird, like the interlacing gets messed up and the image becomes blurry.
You need to come up with something a little more substantial than your bad memory user. Mortal Kombat 4 was the worst game in an already increasingly unpopular series, and it was a Dreamcast launch title. Woopsie, you forgot that so that means the entire Dreamcast launch was bad.
that's the best part.
>lots of people remember windows ME
Yeah if they're over 40.
>You need to come up with something a little more substantial than your bad memory user.
No one remembers Orphen or Street Fighter EX3. Some launch titles those turned out to be.
