I seriously have a hard time believing there's any sort of sincere belief or vision behind any of this. Every time you try to play devil's advocate and think "whatever, not every single character has to be an incredibly hot perfect supermodel", they really spit in your face.

People don't seem to understand the difference between unattractive and unappealing.
You have a character be ugly as fuck and still have a good design, they usually are painfully mediocre and forgettable.
In realistic games there an uncanny valley and the tech fails to tell the difference between a woman with makeup and a naturally attractive woman.
