If you can snag even a cheap equalizer for the SM57 it can actually make it sound far better than just its default settings.
Really all you need for a basic setup is a small interface (pic related), and you're good to go. Scarlett's can connect to your PC via USB. Most mics come with an XLR cable already, so odds are you wouldn't need to even worry about that.
