I'm mad that FFXIV is the best MMORPG on the market. I have so many issues with it: instancing everywhere, outdoor world is dead, animation sliding, SFX up the arse, the strange delay feel in combat, limited glamour slots, b2p + sub + cash shops/premium services.
I just fucking want a proper MMORPG without console rimitations prease understand.

My ex got really into WoW while we were together but I think she exclusively plays FFXIV now. I’ve never really gotten the appeal of MMOs personally

Why do people like FFXIV over WoW? I've played some of both of them and the only real differences I noticed were WoW having faster combat and more strongly differentiated classes

FF14 has the story angle, people like seeing the more linear progression of a plot through playing the MSQ.
I liked it my first time through, trying to get a friend to join, and seeing him have to struggle through 200+ hours of fetch quests and a story you can see the twists coming from a mile away when you're not playing one new quest every month or so is painful.
But yeah, the story shit mostly.

No one ever does anything in the open world, just like in every fucking mmo because there's no reason to ever leave a social hub. You get nothing besides shitty FATEs to maybe do between dungeons if you're a DPS and don't have instant queues, so why walk all the way out to the middle of fucking nowhere?

I meant to the scale RIFT did where it tore up the map and built gigantic mountains/crags to lock you into an arena with a m ax level raid boss in difficulty dropping his ass in a level 10 area. There were cool things done with it. Significantly less with ff14, Most of them boil down to "collect item, bring to checkpoint" like gw2 shit, or "big enemy, kill big enemy" with no/very few unique mechanics to make it any different from mindlessly slaughtering trash mobs.
