Did Hello Games redeem themselves?
Did Hello Games redeem themselves?
There is no other space exploration game that comes close to what NMS does, so I applaud them for that. However, it's sort of just mediocre at everything it does do.
No because the game is fundamentally shit, the core concept is non-stop grinding materials which is fucking boring garbage
the aesthetic is puke
>Did Hello Games redeem their blatant and malicious false advertising?
No. The fact that they didn't get hit with a class action lawsuit was a massive shame.
No, Sean Murray did irreparable damage to the Irish game development scene from multiple lies. Several games were in development alongside No Man's Sky, all Irish.
3 of them finished. Out of 50. Why? Oh because Irish game developers are snake oil salesmen so why bother. He fucking ruined what would've been home grown Irish games. No import. No out sourcing. Made and produced in Ireland.
He killed it fucking dead with lies.
I like the game now.
Don't you have to go catch some leprechauns?
Sounds like you have beef with the irish not with irish game devs
Yes. They could've taken the money from their initial sales and bailed, but they chose to stick around and work on their game. They're even releasing updates that other devs would release as paid DLC, for free. It's not a perfect game yet, but it feels like it's on its way there.
How did you gather that? I have beef with Sean, just Sean. It's not that deep, Sean.
Props to them for exposing the 'advertising dog' or whatever that is supposed to punish false advertising. They deemed it not a problem how he said there would be 10000's of things in the game that weren't there, and the promo was completely fucking fake.
oh no think of all the potato famine simulators we could have had
>irreparable damage to the Irish game development
Ireland is fine mate. You do realise that all European localisation of pretty much every mayor game is still happening in Ireland right?
kek
Fuck no, they just managed to trick people yet again.
>but they added so many things!
Didn’t add anything that was promised, just shifted gears and turned it into a building simulator which makes no goddamn sense in a game where you can travel thousands of light years away
>but the added portals and transports!
which makes even less sense in a game about survival
Everything about this game is wrong and provides no cohesive gameplay
They did add things that were promised though, such as multiplayer aspects and ownable freighters. And the game is about exploration, which portals and transports help with. The base building aspect is a side thing, not the main thing.
Honestly, the core gameplay of NMS is flawed (constant resource grinding), and I don't see much of a way they would be able to fix / change that. However, with what they've done since the game has come out, I'd say it's pretty fair to say they have done a decent job at repairing the mess.
>they added new content
>they're still adding new improved content in 2020
>I got the game for 7 eurobux
>I traded it with some fat alt chick for a copy of spiderman ps4
they're ok in my book, full redemption, win win
When it's part of the main quest line, it isn't really fair to claim it's a side thing
reminder some redditors paid for a billboard to thank them
just imagine the stockholm syndrome
What about Astroneer?
The studio did absolutely redeem itself. The game is still shit tho.
Turns out advertising laws only apply to what they actually advertised, not what mentally ill people imagined they said.
All the people saying Sean redeemed himself in taking years to deliver a functioning product is just holding a massive green light to devs to fuck you in the butthole by releasing unfinished products at launch and taking years to finish them, because that’s ok according to you guys
Stop excusing this behaviour, it sets a precedent
They didn't redeem themselves, but I respect them for sticking at it instead of just running with the money they earned like 99% of devs would have done. Also, Sony marketing the game fucked them over, when they wanted to delay 6 months to a year Sony only gave them like a month.
I applaud them for continuing development and releasing free expansions but the game is genuinely and fundamentally boring. Also whoever designed the NPC aliens needs to be shot, they're all ugly as fuck.
can you link any sort of metadata to support this?
all thise shitty copy paste games like this and star citizen without real characters and no lore yet we can't have a gta coruscant, thanks Disney
wouldn't coruscant just be a space city with aliens? How is that not copy paste?
No matter what they do in patches, the core design will always be wide as an ocean, shallow as a pond.
he literally lied about the game being multiplayer at first.
They need to change VR to roomscale from seated.
I like the game now but still no, it isn't as good as what they promised and even if it fulfilled each of its expected function like a checklist there's still some inherent jank deep in the game that will not be removed
it's not copy paste, this games are randomized, all planets alike just copy pasting
It really depends on their next project, with the work they've done on NMS I will not instantly dismiss it, but if it releases in a similar state, they are done.
I respect them for sticking to their game and improving it. But how I see it is this anology
>guy scams you out of money promising a new item for sale
>item ends up being broken and a quite a bit different from what you paid for at the start
>the scammer knew the whole time
>scammer had to do it because scammer boss ordered him too
>scammer slowly sends you pieces of the ACTUAL item you purchased over a few years until completed
>however you could have bought actual completed product for 80% the price by now at this point in time
>so you still get the shit end of the stick in the end anyways
Yeah it's good to try to make amends, but the reality is that you can't trust them as a developer anymore with a future game release. So, not much different from most big devs BUT the NMS fuck-up was something special.
So personally I think, no, they did not. But I can understand why someone thinks that they did. No one should forget the scheme they pulled though.
it's not cause there's lore and real designs, these games are just randomized bullshit
