MGS isn't stealth game. It's Tactical Espionage Action. There is an action element that is lacking in Splinter Cell and other stealth games. I'd argue that MGS is probably more similar to Tenchu than those western stealth games. Japanese devs seem more inclined to blend stealth gameplay with unforgettable boss fights of cheesy one-liners you'll never forget.
