Epic's take on UE4 games is far less substantial than Apple's appstore to be fair and actual studios probably just negotiate an upfront fee. Of course the reason for that is because Epic wants total dominance in order to control the market.

And just remember, if your game is on epics store it can't be on any other stores. But it's ok when Tim does this kind of shit.

tbf games are Epic exclusive for only a year (outside of AAA games like RDR2 and Borderlands).
The funny thing is that former Epic exclusives usually get a big boost when they come out on Steam. I know Hades, Satisfactory and Detroit Become Human were all major success stories after their Steam launch while they were essentially ignored on EGS.
