Me too. ill probably pick up the digital deluxe on Switch since my savefile is there and I like playing it on handheld from time to time
The combat is really good in this entry and it can be really challenging if you are playing on hard. It's very fast paced and if you like minmaxing you can fool around with the alchemy system alot. The game is a slow burner, the gameplay mechanics aren't fully explained until about 2-3 hours and even then you keep discovering stuff as you keep playing. The characters are interesting and colorful, they are very grounded and behave accordingly to the events revolving around them. The story doesn't kick in until very late but if you enjoy those type of game it's a nice one and a very good entry to the series. I know you said not to bring up character design but in my opinion, its one of the strongest points of the series along with it's music. I didn't like the Mysterious games too much but I still listen to their OST and look at their artwork form time to time, specially the ones from Firis.

Buy it if there's a mini map. Really can't stand not having a guide 24/7 and not knowing where I am at all times. If they add that, there also needs to be quest markers and auto-path too. It's just some small things no one will even notice.
