Just finished watching the movies and now I'm thirsty for more. I've seen it mentioned favorably on Zig Forums before, but in my experience 99% of licensed games are embarrassingly terrible.

It's pretty solid, nothing amazing but the vehicle combat is fun and the wasteland looks great. Would recommend.
its a "go here, clear this place out" kind of game but I liked it
The driving and car combat, and the variety of cars themselves, is great. The world building is interesting. The on-foot combat is pretty lackluster, though. I'd give it a 7/10, definitely worth checking out if you're into the franchise.
Games like this and Avatar (James Cameron's) made me realize not all games based on movies are shit. I assume they have a generous budget behind them and that mades up for most issues.
It won't disappoint if you want a decent Mad Max videogame, it was surprisingly good
It's actually pretty good. I finished it even though I didn't think I would.
It has surprising similarities with the movie and the scary parts are scary
It's super repetitive but if you like the core gameplay loop it should be able to hold your attention until the end. Great atmosphere.
These are all really awesome recs and I genuinely appreciate y'alls input. But here's a question that I'm more curious about.
Have any of you fellas played Butcher Bay? If so, how does the Mad Max game compare to it in terms of satisfying a franchise fan's appreciation for the story and atmosphere?
The game really does respect fan's appreciation of the Mad Max universe. It does the movie's world good and really respects the atmosphere.
As far as story goes it's pretty simple, Max's car gets stolen and he goes on a quest to get it back really.
But her Bay was fucking great I have to replay that. I would say a bit less but not to much.
>The game really does respect fan's appreciation of the Mad Max universe. It does the movie's world good and really respects the atmosphere.
That's why next to no character has an Australian accent aside from Max (which fans had to petition for anyway).
No. The story and atmosphere are pretty good, though, if a little removed from the movies. It almost feels like fanfiction. Not in a bad way, though. It takes place somewhere out in the wasteland, far from the setting of the films, and Max is spiraling into madness.
The game doesn't take place in Australia, user.
Lol that simplicity I think is part of what genuinely glorifies the Mad Max series as such fun fucking rides. The dude has a simple objective that is always met with incredibly complicated obstacles. Such is the way of the Wasteland.
Yes it does?
It honestly isn't that good. The first couple hours are fine but after that it gets VERY repetitive. Melee combat is EXTREMELY easy and vehicle combat is very tedious.
As you can see I beat it in around 35 hours with about 80% completion. I could have easily beat it in 20 hours and had to force myself to keep playing because I don't like seeing unexplored parts of the map.
If you do play it remember that you can swap your car parts out at any time. No need to return to a garage. Armor only slows you down and once you get a rocket launcher it becomes ez mode. As soon as you see a fight coming just pause and equip what you need on your car.
Ok, so it's been since the game came out, but I felt certain when I said that, that at the beginning of the game, Max rides out into the dried-up ocean and ends up far from the setting of the films. I could be mistaken, though.
I thought the car combat was excellent, though obviously if you just rocket everything, it'll get tedious.
>breaks game
>it now becomes shit
I seriously hope this isn't your argument for whether it's worth experiencing or not, user. Exploitation of mechanics may not be commendable, but exploring the game without breaking it is still an important part of gauging it's value.
just don't get pulled over by the jew cops.
australia is already a post apocolyptic shithole wasteland.
the hell are you on about
It becomes very repetitive after a while.
which part, the reference about mel gibson's drunken run-in with the cops or that australia is a shithole?
The story and characters are barebones which kind of works for a Mad Max setting but it doesn't really motivate you to keep playing much. The ubisoft-like open world grind isn't fun either. HOWEVER the design of the world and the gameplay mechanics are really fun and immersive. I would advice you to not upgrade any strongholds or Max himself (except for his gear). Otherwise the game because piss easy. And also don't try to clear the entire map unless there are specific car parts you want to unlock. The grindiness of the game will otherwise make you want to quit. It is fun in small doses.
This is true. After awhile, I mostly played it while getting drunk and/or watching something. It doesn't demand a lot of attention. But I found it quite comfy alongside 12 oz. Mouse.
Its fun as fuck. Its just a bit annoying that the physics system is rigged so your car literally cannot do a barrel roll or anything like a flip where it might land on the roof.
Thats because the devs didn't want to figure out how you might realistically unflip the car, and didn't want to do it unrealistically like in GTA V where you have psychic powers to move the car
Butcher Bay is the gold standard of movie tie-ins. Mad Max is mostly a tie-in to Fury Road, not the older Mad Max games but there are a few nice nods here and there.
It was in development before Fury Road was even conceived, iirc. What nods are you thinking of?
The main villain (Scrotus or something) is the son of Immortan Joe
The boys who yells WITNESS MEEEE are the basic mobs, although I forget if they say the line
The woman and the child are the one Max is having hallucination of in Fury Road
It's been a few years since I played but the mine sniffing dog and the Road Warrior outfit you unlock at the very end are clearly nods to the second movie.
