Why is nobody giving Castlevania shit for total number of recycled assets?
>Classic games usually only only whip as a primary weapon, metroidvanias use huge arsenal directly lifted from Symphony of the Night >Huge enemy variety, but old models are used way past their expiration date, Order of Ecclesia (2008) still had some enemy sprites directly from Rondo of Blood (1994) and Symphony of the Night (1997) >Bosses from the first game re-appearing throughout the series like Frankenstein's monster, mummy, Death etc, also Dracula being final boss in almost all of the games, at least they usually get new and updated designs >Recurring music tracks >Constant backtracking >Castles are different in their design save for entrance hall and throne room, but have stock places like flooded underground, library, ball room with dancing ghosts and clock tower >Reused locations within the same game like how Symphony of the Night and Harmony of Dissonance both have 2 largerly the same castles or second half of Portrait of Ruin being the same 4 areas you already beat with stronger enemies >Harmony of Despair is a "new" game made almost entirely out of remixed levels from past games with online co-op added, even it's name sounds like Harmony of Dissonance
No budget and time, that's why. Also i don't mind reused assets at all, i think the DS games aren't really worse because of them
Sebastian Harris
Because it's good.
Isaiah Sullivan
Because the games are good.
Jacob Allen
>recycled assets maybe you should learn what that means
Jacob Cooper
>Why is nobody giving Castlevania shit for total number of recycled assets?
Because there's nothing actually wrong with reusing assets.
Caleb Hernandez
Lords of Shadow is actually the game with most effort put into it, it got new 3D engine and models, 20 hours long campaign that is at least two times longer than any other Castlevania and very varied locations outside of castle.
Michael Bell
it was a different time, look at fighting games from that era, especially the marvel series, they just repurposed sprites where ever they saw fit as long as they were 'good' enough.
Luis Campbell
new games in franchises always coming with remixes of tunes in older games is always kino
Blake James
its hard to state just how much love SotN got at the time. people fucking LOVED it, like everyone acted like it was the greatest shit they ever played. so its not surprising they wanted to repeat the formula
Matthew Sanders
Aria of Sorrow was a very original entry, but after that they immediately shit the bed making the next game into Aria 2.0 with worse story and dumb touch screen gimmicks
Nicholas Rivera
If the assets arent outdated, i really couldnt give a shit if theyre reused or not. Do they look up to par, if so then keep them in. Rather a good looking reused one than an uglier new one
Its not like theyre reusing the same morrigan sprite 3 times in a row, even when it clashes with other sprites
Cameron Jenkins
Capcom were peak lazy, for example Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had 46 playable characters, but only 8 new sprites
Jaxson Lopez
Still had SOUL that UMVC3 lacked.
Ayden White
Don't care didn't ask plus you're dracula
Jose Baker
Lords of Shadow 2 sucked so much ass though. Quite possibly the worst CV game I've played, and that's just because gothic and tech do not mix at all, and it just doesn't seem like a Castlevania game because the gothic it has just doesn't have that charm to it. Lords of Shadow at least attempted it and did well.
Thomas Clark
>worst cv game i've played So you didn't play Circle then
Jackson Walker
Not a lot of 2D Castlevanias I've played, and I generally avoid the ones with whip-wielders because SoTN, Sorrow and the 3D games spoiled me with how much there is in terms of weapon variety. LoS gets a pass because of the huge amount of combos and attacks, along with the different subweapons.
Gabriel Harris
It's not even the worst Castlevania on GBA
Jordan Robinson
"Comboshit" DMC/GoW esque combat doesn't fit to Castlevania anyway, to add to that the inherent edgyness and gritty aestettic also feel like the people behind LoS had no idea what the hell they wanted to do.
Brody Peterson
Castlevania was never good
Anthony Ramirez
Objectively incorrect
Adam Watson
Then again you could always do the same combo throughout the entire game and just dodge when the enemies do an unblockable or perfect guard when they don't do it.
I find it fun to try a little bit of everything in there, and I generally like the lore in Lords of Shadow. And the grittiness probably straight up comes from the fact the Lords of Shadow fucked everything up for the people there.
Nolan Jackson
>Order of Ecclesia (2008) still had some enemy sprites directly from Rondo of Blood (1994) and Symphony of the Night (1997) That's pretty cool actually, it's kind of amazing they would do that.
Christopher Taylor
The Adventure is much worse. Also Legacy of Darkness >>>> All other 3D CV.
Tyler Mitchell
That shit camera doesn't do it any favors and I don't remember hearing any music in it.
Jordan Carter
kys Justefag
Ayden Lee
The camera is not the best, but it's actually improved a lot from CV64 where it was truly atrocious. The music is more simple and ambient than in majority of CV titles, but it creates a terrific atmosphere and actually has some really cool tracks like Silent Madness. Also has the best version of The Sinking Old Sanctuary.
Colton Gomez
I might try it again later on.
Wyatt Parker
I like at a lot, but I also played it right after the original CV64 so it already looked better in comparison. It has unique levels and some cool platforming segments, something that the majority of Classicvanias have and all the subsequent 3D ones lacked.
