This vs LotF, who wins?
This vs LotF, who wins?
Played both. Lords of the Fallen feels like a masterpiece compared to this chink ue4 asset flip. Good god I didn't spent a dime on either of these.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
No one
Unironically, lords of the fallen.
They're both shit
This game is literally one central hub with 2 small and 1 big area attached to it with 4 bosses total and maybe like 10 enemy types. The big area is possibly the worst level in gaming I've seen in last 10 years and feels like someones first attempt at designing an area in Gamemaker with couple stock assets reused in every possible way.
Mortal Shell overall seems more like a tech demo than an actual game.
LotF wasnt that bad, if they fixed the clunkyness and dead slow animations it would be an alright 5/10 souls clone.
Why the FUCK hasn't another large game developer capitalised on the clear market for this sort of game?
Why is it all indie devs and shitters trying to do it?
What a fucking low bar. Glad to see we move on from the fromsoft killer phase though
LotF at least got better when it became the surge.
Don't know about mortal shell tho.
LotF has actual levels and build variety even despite all the clunk
This one shat the bed in the most important aspects of soulslike design so hard it's unbelievable
Haven't played LotF but this game was really underwhelming. I did play the Surge though from the same devs, and that game was a little better than Mortal Shell.
I don't plan on plying LotF, but the combat in mortal shell is extremely unsatisfying compared to Dark Souls.
Because it's obviously difficult as fuck to make and also doesn't have the widest appeal. Why not just make an open world braindead checkbox type game like Ass Creed, Witcher 3, Bamham, Far Cry, Just Cause, Mafia 3, Saints Row etc. instead and not only have an easy time making it, but also sell a fuckton more copies?
Gave it an hour or two and the combat felt fine if shallow. My biggest problem was how pointless it felt. I really hate these clones that drop you into the game world with nothing but a pat on the back saying "You like Souls, right? Here." and no story hook at all. The only thing that could possibly push me forward is finding out the lore behind my character but that should be the icing on the cake, not the cake itself. This meme that the story of Souls was somehow incoherent and obscure, and everything should be like that too needs to stop.
I don't know how they could make a Souls clone with like 5 bosses and the whole game being only 10 hours long.
>Dark souls 1
>you're a cursed undead prisoner released by a knight
>he gives you the gist of things before dying
>get told what to do by the first NPC you find and also by a message you literally cannot miss because its plastered on your screen rather than being a sign on the ground
>once you do the first bit you get another NPC telling you backstory and exactly what you need to do
DS2
>you're seeking something, you originate from a far away land, you're a cursed undead
>you're seeking a cure to the curse
>get told by a welsh waifu to seek souls to empower yourself
to be honest i haven't played in a while so I can't remember any other drivers telling you to kill the "lords" or fight nashandra
DS3
>opening cinematic showing you awaken
>basic tutorial area and boss
>literally get told THE ENTIRE PLOT OF THE GAME as soon as you get to the shrine
>clear temple boss
>have to run back through the spoopy dark fog
I dont have any specific complaints other than this one. The droves of shitty vampires and elemental wraith enemies are fucking tedious
Lords of the fallen.
The enemy placement in Mortal Shell is absolutely abysmal.
Its because people get plot confused with lore
Like says, the plot of souls games has NEVER been particularly ethereal or mysterious. The lore and lengthy backstory behind everything, however, has been more subtle, but never completely fucking hidden. Like in DS1 you can piece together loads of lore without autistically reading every single item description.
But for some reason its memed as being completely impenetrable
Demon's Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro are also all really upfront about what you're there to do and why
user you nailed it. I didn't think about, but From games really give you a clear objective from the start that gets clearly updated later
>We're all trapped here and have a big ass demon to deal with, but you have to get strong first
>If you think you're chosen go ring two bells and find out you have to replace the lord
>Go get strong and find the king to cure your curse, king's fucked guess you gotta replace him
>World is falling apart and you can try and save it by bringing these guys back
>Here's you contract, go kill some beasts, whoops it's not just beasts
>Go save your shota lord, now go get rid of this immortality
Even the good souls clones make it clear
>S&S is you're trapped on an island and gotta escape
>Remnant is find the tower and whoever made it, now find a way to deal with these trees
>Hellpoint is go collect the data for your maker to meet him
All of these games have incoherent babbling, but you can make out exactly what you need to do and why amidst of it. Mortal Shell tells you to collect the glands for this guy for some reason while everyone talks like a schizo.
I'ma shill Hellpoint
>fromsoft killer phase
I don't think any of these fuckers actually think they can make a game better than the soul games.
Code vein and ni-oh have the biggest production value out of all other soul clones, but both are story driven and did they own thing.
couldn't hurt. Even if its a little jank at least it has a ton to do and explore
Was really excited for this. Souls but with a Blame/Hellraiser/Event Horizon influence? Shit yeah, pump that in my veins. Had to drop it though because it was just so fucking bad. Especially the level design. God damn, it's straight up terrible.
Definetly LotF, Mortal Shell is complete and utter garbage. The level design is some of the worse in video games, they intentionally make areas big and boring because there is a gameplay mechanic tying you to wandering around in the dark with a red flash light looking for your way back after defeating a boss which is one of the worse game designs ever.
Combat is pretty much like an alpha version of souls the only thing that was good is getting the parry to hit because it had good hit stun/sound impact. The enemies moves are incredible slow and easy to see. All the enemies walk slow so you can easily equip Tiel with his big ass stamina bar and he also has a skill that makes it so you don't lose stamina when running so they obviously wanted you do to do run all around the 4 levels picking up all the treasure which is all trash except for the damage upgrades. The bosses are also a complete joke and then they try to gimmick you out by making them waste your time like the ice boss skating around like a retard or the last boss constantly jumping backwards. Hit boxes are also laughable and that's why they gave Tiel so much stamina and a dodge with a million iframes.
Atleast LotF has different gameplay options to try out, Mortal Shell is the worst souls like game on the list to have come out. Absolute trash.
learning world is genuinely annoying, and im not ashamed to admit I used a few youtube walkthroughs when I was looking for specific things, but now that im familiar with it I love it
Lords was better. Both are dogshit though
Mortal Shell
it has more sexless naked people
I agree totally with you, but the fact that Mortal feels miles better makes it superior in my opinion. Mortal feels like a first run game, it's small, visually dull (my eyes hurt from staring at brown and black), but they wanted to focus on fluid combat and I think they got it down pat, whereas LotF wanted to show you all the pretty places, but the gameplay they gave it made me just drop it and not bother after a while.
Mortal Shell: Ugly as sin, feels good, being short is a blessing for it.
LotF: Really nice looking, feels bad man, stuck feeling bad for way more than I had patience for.
I don't understand the parry in this game. Like it seems simple enough and i get it off easily against the peasant enemies, but I've never been able to parry the halberd guys even once even though my timing seemed right. It just hit right through it. And yes, i know about the red warning thing before an unparryable.
