Xbox will have the superior versions of all multiplatform games. Microsoft has been buying up game studios, and just because those games will also release on PC isn’t a bad thing. Crossplay is good, and that’s something Sony has continued to resist because they are just as bad as Apple when it comes to forcing their awful digital ecosystem on you.

Xbox Series S (all-digital) is going to be $299. Xbox Series X will be $499. PS5 will cost $499 for a disc-less model and $599 for a disc-drive model. Microsoft is going to undercut Sony to regain some of the market share they lost with the Xbox One. $299 is a good deal if you’re cheap, and $499 is an extremely good deal for the hardware you’re getting, especially in comparison to Sony’s costs for inferior hardware.

Microsoft has only started making money on the Xbox brand since the near-end of the Xbox 360. Xbox One was ironically their most successful console from a money-making perspective. Microsoft makes billions of dollars in revenue on the Xbox brand, and gaming has become a priority under Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Xbox head Phil Spencer. With Game Pass and xCloud taking off on virtually all platforms except Sony, Xbox isn’t going away anytime soon.

Xbox has a fantastic backwards compatibility program across three generations of games, a terrific rotating selection of games through Game Pass, an arguably superior controller that benefits from using AA batteries and doesn’t require charging or a buzzsaw to replace, and a chill online community that’s mostly populated by boomer holdovers from the 360 days.

Except for the launch Xbox One the Xbox Brand™ has always provided a satisfying gaming experience. I have zero issues or things I would change.

OGbox, 360 both great, I only played on Playstation consoles when I had no other choice. Launch Xbone was kind of a laggy disaster but they bounced back with the S and X.

But a consistent problem has been the lack of games. If you buy an Xbox you always need the Sony counterpart to pickup the slack. Wheres the other side doesn't have this problem. Everything that matters will be on Playstation. Sure the experience won't be as "premium", and you'll lose out graphically in some instances, but you'll have all the games.

At this point, I can't keep doing this. Adding two more consoles to the pile every generation. I'm running out of fucking space. In some cases getting fucked over because that "Playstation Exclusive" comes over to Xbox anyway just years later. Like what happened to Neir Automata for me.

So instead of buying both, I'm just going to be rolling Playstation. I'll check Digital Foundry for sure, I'm always curious, but I won't sweat over a couple pixels or a lighting change.

If the power gap between the PS5 and SeX is big enough, third-parties will drop the exclusive content thing by the end of 2021. Also, Sony's grip on Japanese titles loosens by the day, just look at P4G being a Steam exclusive. [at least when talking about modern platforms]

I am curious to see how they perform. I'll hold off for awhile. Alot of 7th gen games I was looking forward too just up and vanished and we never did get Deep Down on PS4. Whats announced doesn't make it to shelves. Well, I mean I guess physical games aren't really a thing at this point, metaphorical shelves.

I bought Peeforg on Vita 2 days before it came to Steam (was $15 at the retro shop). Its cool having it portable anyway so I'm not mad.

Price hasn't been confirmed and if you think all digital is gonna be $299 then you're absolutely delusional. Also, wouldn't having multiplats that runs ALMOST identically to XSex while also having actual exclusives be a worth trade-off? Then again, if you're not really into Snoy exclusives I guess it doesn't matter.

For me, it's not that none of the exclusives look good, it's that I don't want to receive an inferior product if I end up getting a Japanese title.

Microsoft have my money if they come out and say Series X can play Xbox, 360 and Xbone games from disc with no compatibility issues.
Sames goes for Sony, but they seem considerably less likely to do it than Microsoft

Will never happen, compatibility is a bitch. Even late model PS2s weren't fully compatible with certain PS2 games.
Best case scenario is what they're already doing, making games compatible once they work properly and can be upscaled to 4k.
This is probably the best way to fight licensing nightmares like GTA, Ace Combat 6, and JSRF. Since the discs are available, Microsoft doesn't need to sell the game, just make it compatible.

I'm sure Microsoft's highest priority is to work on features that help sell less games.

Microsoft neither want to sell games nor sell consoles. They want people to use their platform. In the same way they made Internet Explorer free to get everyone to use it and snuff out competition, they're doing the same thing with Xbox and PC games. It was illegal when they did it in the 90s but it's a normal business tactic nowadays.

If they can run Windows, I'm buying the Series X Day One. It would blow out most budget rigs, , allow you to bypass the paid online, and do most things a normal PC could do.

Sorry XBox, I like the idea and even bought an Xbox previously, but the Sony exclusives are just too much and made me felt left out when all my favourite streamers like Distortion2 and Elajizz were playing games I couldnt play.
