The Wukong with the Iron Needle at the end of the gameplay preventing protag!Wukong isn't the real Wukong, he's the imposter mentioned before.

It's called "Black Myth" because it's meant to discuss the controversial angle of Wukong's life and how his tale isn't a proud adventure, it's a tragedy of how the free spirit of man can be crushed by postmodern dogma when forced to fight alone. Yes. The fact it's getting released means they likely either found a fuckton of loopholes related to cultural preservation to keep the plot mostly in tact, or they're getting outside investments now. But the plot looks largely the same as it was in old promotional shit from years ago.

There's some interesting ideas in there, but I don't actually trust some literal who Chinese developer not to fumble and fuck up. The trailer, like you said, already shows off some of the weak points.
