Who do you main, and why?

who do you main, and why?

bowser because I like the command grab and angering my tier whore friends
He only really has a chance against fastfallers, but I'm not the type to ragequit against better players so I spend most of my time losing. I have always wondered why people get so mad at this game, I guess my brain just isn't wired to rage

Luigi. I like his character in general and learned how to wavedash with him and it stuck. He has fun movement and meaty attacks, but I wish i mained someone like falcon instead

I'm a falco main, I've never played a bowser main before. I played bowser a couple times as a joke but i quit because i fucking hate playing as bowser. But yeah, i get you. In terms of video games i get frustrated, but only for 15 seconds at most. What aerials do you do in neutral?

bowser, the ability to actually play as him was rad to me back when it first came out and i still like the big oaf even if the barafags have claimed him

Go ahead and learn Falcon then. Luigi is too floaty for me. but I understand why you like him. He's a tricky character for me, because I barely run into luigi's. On slippi its mostly marth's for me.

>tfw my highest score in classic mode is with fucking ganondorf

Mr. Game & Watch, because he's the only interesting character in this hogwash game.

How so?

Peach. I played Sheik for years but was so frustrated with her recovery. Switched to Peach and never looked back, love her character specific tech, love the blender, love the RNG.

Tails

I only ever played melee for a couple hours with some high school friends a year ago, but when I did, I found success with ganondorf because I played him in Project Meme, and puff because she's overpowered with her aerial speed and aerials.

He's cool and fast, I wish his Lcancels and and shield worked properly. I think this game would be so much better if he was a top tier lightweight character.

I would like to redirect you to >>/vm/

Back when I was a tourneyfag, I mained Mario and Fox. I've always been a Mario fanboy, so it's only right I stuck with him, but Fox I always had a feeling if I practiced enough I could destroy just about anyone. I got pretty good and eventually got sick of the drama and left, but I'll admit when I see high level Fox players I still get excited. Controlling his crazy fast movement and faking players out was my jam.

Nobody and its why I'll never get good.

I enjoy playing Falco, Fox, Sheik, Marth, Falcon, DK and Link. I should really commit to a main I just don't know who.

What the fuck? Didn't even know that board existed. Well, we'll already started.

luigi, falco and marth
they fun. i wish link was good though

hiroshimoot is trying to kill Zig Forums. Don't let him succeed.

Peach cos her taunt sounds super annoying to my friends and tilts them

bowser is so close to being mid tier with just a few changes. most of his moves are actually pretty good, he just need to be more nimble.

If you can't help but playing multiple characters, just play 2 characters at a time. It slows your progress but you can have fun playing characters you like, and improve little by little. I say play fox and marth, so once you encounter particularly difficult spacie player, you can get a 50/50 or a 40/60 with them.

There was a while where my town had a top player who mained random. He was ranked 2nd.

I understand how you feel. I want to "main" Falco because I like his attacks, but Fox is just a smoother character to play (to me) because of his speed and the 1 less frame on jump squat. Makes all the fucking difference in the world to mediocre players like me, but seeing top 100 players play them and make it seem negligible is frustrating.

also, the reason i main falco is just that i connect with his mechanics really well. It just clicks, I like his dair, and the combos just feel more free flowing than other characters. Might be because I play him the most but I like flashy spikes alot. Especially suicide spikes.

I guess Yoshi though i'm a bit like this user , I dont really commit that much to Yoshi but he's the closest to that, though I'm just here to have fun because Melee is my childhood defining game and I want to love everything about it.
This does give me situations like webm related where I have potential for greatness but I fuck up at one point and what could have been a kill is just a few good reads
Love the game still though

god i love melee's colors

>For settings where I actually need to play good:
Puff, Peach
>Characters I like to push my luck with:
Link, Doc
>Fun characters that I can't use in tournaments:
Ganon, Luigi, G&W, Roy

roy is fun

Ganon is better than Link tho

Bowser's jumpsquat and landing lag are so terrible that jumping in neutral comes at a cost. He's so slow that you can't just repeatedly shorthop fair and expect to box people out.
In neutral I'm mostly fishing for grabs while mixing up with ftilt/dash attack. Up B is a lot like shine except there aren't really followups. Side B is a kill throw and also can be a chaingrab if you throw forward and the opponent doesn't DI (in other words this is just for swag and doesn't really work).
Normally the overall game plan is to go for cheesy ledgeguards with ftilt and getup attack, but upair is a really solid kill move as well. Shorthop upair is better than upsmash, and upair can also scoop people off the ground if you're really good.
Altogether Bowser's moveset is bad because the moves are slow to end and his hitbox/hurtbox shapes lose badly to moves like falco/fox dair. Winning as Bowser takes a lot of gimmicks and game knowledge, so even if I beat a skilled player at first, eventually they figure me out and I start losing for good.

I know, I'm still better with Link if you can believe it

Ness cause he’s fun

Mario, because I like Mario.

Maybe he's just worse at Ganon and doesnt want to commit
You peak very early as Ganondorf, he's fun to play for fun but when someone doesnt want to play you and you're not on Yoshi, it's very hard to have the confidence to play a good Ganon.

Yoshi, zip-zopping around platforms and slinging ledge eggs is basically why I got into Melee after watching aMSa videos.

Can be frustrating to play though because your defensive options are all ridiculous tight framed parries and predictive aerial crouch cancels basically. Didn't realize how smooth and great wavedash out of shield was until playing other characters and being able to smoothly incorporate shielding into ground movement.

i wanted to have yoshi as a secondary but i just forgot the muscle memory to DJC, but good work. Yoshi seems really fun. All you need is more practice. Or play time.

Peach
Floating just feels good
Helps that she's a bit busted too

Thanks man, im working on it and doing better as time goes on, but i'm not taking it at a pace where I get exhausted. People on Slippi are super good, and on Europe, which has a more limited pool of players, you quickly run into really good players.
Pic related, both met in Unranked.

And 2nd one

Falco. Because his dair makes me hard and he's hot

Sheik is peak Smash character. But I'm bad and the other people are bad so they get rekt by Sheik's nonsense.

Slippi players are varied over here in the US. I ran into a sheik who clearly was playing for the first time. And next game i get my ass whooped. I wish i had friends that were on my level. The only person I know who plays melee with me, gets frame drops for some reason. We both live in the US. It's very interesting though how people who are obvious new players pick characters who are good against spacies. The first day Slippi was live i ran into like 10 beginner samuses.

Falcon because I just like the speed and the knee feels so damn good, also his up air is a really versatile and underrated move

Luigi is pure idiocy and I love it
