Was there ever a debate on this? The object the cube is placed on is stationary, why would it produce any force carried onto the cube? I'm a fucking retard with 0 knowledge of physics how is that hard?
is not going very fast though. not convinced
Oh no no no (B)rainletbros we got too cocky...
Fake news op is a communist here to steal our blue jeans.
This argument always comes down to a matter of reality vs source engine, in which A is true for the latter and B the former. But this situation can't even exist in game because a portal disappears if the surface it's on starts moving.
there is no answer because the portal technology is metaphysically impossible u tard
i think its one of those traps for people who think the obvious answer must be the incorrect one
>This argument always comes down to a matter of reality vs source engine, in which A is true for the latter and B the former.
fucking glownigger, TELL ME WHERE YOU STORE THE PORTAL GUNS NOW
>metaphysically
WTF my life was a lie all along.
nice edited physics bro, here's the REAL answer
Neither, moving portals aren't a thing
You're retarded.
Portal technology is certainly metaphysically possible, thats how we made a game about it. It's not (real physics) physically possible though, which is why it doesnt exist in reality.
So when are we discovering portals IRL
>drop a hula hoop around a box
>box flings itself into orbit
That's B logic.
The cube has to move out of the blue portal as quickly as it is moving into the orange portal. When the orange portal has consumed 99.999% of the cube, the 99.999% of the cube that's left the blue portal is moving at the same speed the orange portal is. When the orange portal covers that last hair's length, you're imply all this momentum in the 99.999% of the cube that has already passed through the portal just goes away?
The answer will also be that there is no answer because portals break down fundamental ideas in physics. The frame of reference for the object's movement includes itself, nothing works.
someone emailed a valve dev on this, they responded and said A. works
keked pretty hard
>which is why it doesnt exist in reality.
yet
Most people said B to troll people who said A and also laugh at brainlets who agreed with them
>yet
No
An object moving in relation to itself is not fucking possible.
>thinking what we know now it all that can ever be true
>there is no answer because the portal technology is metaphysically impossible
there is an answer, and it is neither A nor B, and you really have no idea what metaphysical means.
Imagine if the orange portal descended very slowly. That would mean that the cube would materialize through the blue portal very slowly, at the same rate as the orange portal's descent. The leading edge of the cube necessarily must have some velocity in the direction away from the blue portal, for it must, to make room for the rest of the cube.
The slower the descent, the slower the cube would inch forward through the blue portal, thus we can see the velocity of the cube as it exits the blue portal is EQUAL to the velocity of the descending orange portal. Equally so, the faster the orange portal descended, the faster the leading edge of the cube must make room for the rest of it behind it. Thus, the answer is obviously B, the cube has a velocity equal to the orange portal and would fly out.
the cube isnt moving, the portal is
The blue portal moving down is akin to the entire universe being moved around around the cube. Once the blue portal is fully slammed onto the cube and comes to a stop, the cube would immediately move forward with the same velocity that the portal was moving at. Whether the universe is moving onto the cube or the cube is moving through the universe is relative, we being outside of the interaction have a different reference frame which is split into two very different and impossible frames via the portals.
If you disagree or don't understand, you are a shriveled walnut brain.
>wojakposter can't form coherent sentences
color me surprised
it is "entering" the orange at the oranges speed
>"objects"
the atom of the cube that has exited blue is not on the orange side anymore
nope, you're braindead or trolling. byebye
The atom is still moving in relation to its fucking self just by moving relative an open set of portals.
After thinking for a few minutes about this thought experiment, my conclusion is the same as
there is no "speed". the portal itself has no momentum, and neither has the cube
