Nothing inherently wrong with Sylux. We know Tanabe likes exploring the Federation. Sylux serves as a rival, potentially an anti-hero, and also has a backstory with the Federation. Granted, he could end up being bland, uninspired, lame, a waste of time and effort . . . But he could be an interesting aspect as well. We'll have to wait and see.
