Anybody else notice that the "Wow factor" and general excitement of gaming is completely gone from the industry?
Every once in a blue moon there will be a game that's genuinely fun to play, but even those rare gems lack the excitement found in the truly revolutionary titles of yesteryear. This even carries over to marketing and advertisements; developers seem to understand that they are incapable of delighting and surprising gamers anymore, so they just appeal to the lowest common denominator for maximum profit with minimal effort (just look at either the "Future of Gaming" presentation or Xbox's abysmal next gen showcase as prime examples). Even I myself am guilty of perpetuating the problem. In the past few years I've played, enjoyed, and recommended both A Hat in Time & Bug Fables to many of my gaming brethren. Yet I am fully conscious of the undeniable fact that playing either of those games (despite how mechanically satisfying they may be) is the equivalent of eating roadkill off the side of the road because there are zero restaurants or food stores left in the hypothetical "post apocalyptic wasteland" in which we currently reside. How can you get excited for new games that look like they could have released on a Sega Dreamcast ffs? On the other hand, how can you get excited to play "games" that are steadily taking control away from the player to the point that you might as well be watching a film instead? Sony's recent 1st party offerings often excel at presentation and production values but they skimp on satisfying gameplay and robust complex mechanics. Indie titles such as the two I previously mentioned succeed with delivering complex, nuanced, and stimulating gameplay, but they are always low budget dogshit that look several gens behind the industry.
TL;DR: If you are a gamer, you are no longer allowed to have your cake and eat it too. You must begrudgingly choose one or the other; which is a problem we rarely had to deal with back in the day.
Yeah we've been spoiled growing up and the industry is nowhere near as innovative, talented or even willing to think about the customers like they were in the past.
Play Ace combat 7. It was the first game to make make me have chills run down my spine since I was a child.
Daniel Butler
Triple A studios have ruined the industry entirely. I'm hardly ever excited for anything that isn't from Nintendo
Eli Wilson
Gaming died the day it went mainstream, neurotypicals ruin everything they touch.
Matthew Sanchez
It's because games are made as products first now instead of actually things for people to enjoy.
Carter Moore
tl'dr. just here for the padippica
Oliver Clark
Is bayonetta too old to count? I played it for the first time a year ago and it gave me that amazing sensation
Elijah Gutierrez
>Nier Automata >Wonderful 101 >all 3 Bloodstained games >Astral Chain >Xenoblade DE (doesn't quite count since it's only a remaster) >Dragon Quest XI >Prey >Rain World bro
Anthony Diaz
>I'm hardly ever excited for anything that isn't from Nintendo I wish Nintendo would actually compete graphically. They'd rule the entire industry if they could pull off detail like pic related.
I can find that shit in movies and all over the internet though. I don't see how anyone can compete with good gameplay, like imagine spending $20-60 to blow 12 hours not having fun.
Asher James
Muh Graphix is what killed the fucking industry in the first place. Games used to look ugly, which meant you had to make games that actually were fun to play or had a great story. You had to innovate. Now you just invest in muh graphix and people will mindlessly buy even though said graphics will look like shit 3 years from now
Can someone e,plain the deluge of Dipper and Pacifica pictures? I only watched the first season, and Pacifica was quite the vapid bitch then, did she get canonically shipped with Dipper? Did they pull of a Trixie where the bitchy character is redeemed and turns out to be a pretty nice person?
Brody Phillips
>I only watched the first season Then watch the rest. It'll obviously be explained there.
Christian Sullivan
Not even a footfag, but why do so many artists skip the feet?
Ethan Phillips
get out of here boomer, everyone knows the new hot ship is lumity.
>>Nier Automata Amazing game, awesomely atmospheric, God-tier music, but PS3-tier visuals >>Wonderful 101 Good game; nothing spectacular; terrible graphics >>all 3 Bloodstained games Never played but they look like low-budget indie dogshit >>Astral Chain Neutered combat coming from NieR:Automata, Bayonetta, etc. Overall underwhelming game. Tried to push the capabilities of the Switch graphically, but failed due to how underpowered the hardware was that they were forced to work with. >>Xenoblade DE (doesn't quite count since it's only a remaster) Terrible remaster. The origial game was very good, but this """Definitive Edition""" is the very definition of a lazy remake/ remaster. >>Dragon Quest XI Graphics were good and bad simultaneously; inconsistent to be sure. Gameplay was pretty by-the-numbers compared to past entries in the series. Nothing amazing, but a solid JRPG nonetheless. >>Prey Never played >>Rain World Never even heard of.
the rich girl archetype is kino. is there any games with a romancable one?
Gabriel Phillips
Because you’re not making the games you want to play.
Josiah Rodriguez
>all these soulless boring games Wew
Oliver Lewis
Because it literally doesn't cross their minds. If I draw my character from the knees up, it's not because I have a reason to not include their shins, I just wanted to frame them closely and the rest of their body took priority. Footfags shouldn't be so fucking obnoxious because feet are generally inoffensive but you act like it's not a weird fetish.
Dylan White
Go to hell you off topic bastard! Didn't you learn your lesson earlier in the day when you were spamming Gravity Falls shit. Fuck you. Hope this shitty garbage thread is deleted.
Alright, because I liked the episode that explained the whole mess, I'll spoonfeed:
>Basically, there's an episode where the Northwest's mansion is haunted by ghosts, they hire Dipper to solve the mess and have Pacifica following them around because reasons (can't remember why she was with him to begin with). Turns out there was a ghost who got betrayed by the Northwest family centuries ago and wanted to exact revenge on them. Some scenes are filled with ship teases, most dominantly one where Pacifica hugs Dipper and after realizing that, tries to bribe him into not mentioning so, and in general, it's thanks to Dipper that Pacifica went from antagonist to a supporting character. And there's also the commercialized diary, which had a part where Dipper was starting to fall in love with her.
Adam Jones
have you ever thought you are too old for games?
Jason Robinson
This comic is canon, but I can't remember the name of it
I checked, Lost Legends and the OP pic is from it. Pretty nice.
Zachary Morris
You're right op, ignore the Zig Forums contrarians. Its a lie to say AAA games are bad. The problem is, theyre dependent on investors who probably go apeshit if devs even CONSIDER trying anything interesting or innovative. Innovation means taking risks, which sadly is unacceptable once you have hundereds of millions of dollars on the line. Its an unfortunate situation, but thats business. The average gamer is easy to "wow", so why NOT spend 90% of the budget on graphics, voice acting, and marketing?
