Game seems to be largely kinda forgotten. Which is weird since it's by far the best 3d mario ever.
Why didn't Mario Odyssey become a legendary Mario like Mario 64?
Because it's too new and you're all a bunch of cynical adults who've lost their innocence.
Because there's lack of interesting bosses compared to previous games.
It will get more popular once people figure out how to mod it.
every copy is personalized xDDDD
Because it sucks. Simple.
Because it doesn't have nostalgia. Give it 10 years.
Because it wasn't cute.
maybe mario 64 is one of the most important games in the history of the medium or something
It wasn't forgotten, every third or fourth person who bought a Switch owns a copy.
because a lot of the moons were largely forgettable. Quality over quantity
its not forgotten at all
No one cares about platformers, they died for a reason. Fortnite and Minecraft is the new Pokemon of this generation.
If it was forgotten why are you this angry about it.
Because half the kingdoms are fucking small hubs with fuck all to explore.
I think in many ways it felt very rail road-y in the the sense while there are many stars to choose to go from, the way you get them is very similar. The cap mechanic while it provides more movement mechanics, it also moves Mario away from his most interesting form in terms of movement options and that is his base form. I think that's why 64 is so fondly remember, it challenged 3d mario platforming at its most technically varied as well as having at times very different paths to reach the same objective.
You didn't have to grab those easy moons. If every moon was super hard the game would look like a mess. Sometimes a moon ontop of a tree is enough just so you go explore over there.
Because they made a platforming system that you can truly push the boundaries with, but they designed every single level for their main audience, which are the kids. Kids aren’t going to do amazing hat tricks, they’re going to do all the extremely easy basic shit that the devs laid in front of them. Compared to the greatest Mario games, galaxy 1 and 2, it didn’t have heart- just hundreds of moons scattered everywhere that kids can easily get. In galaxy however, each star feels personal and rewarding because you actually completed a challenge. Basically, they made good movement and didn’t bring the platforming challenges to the same level
Time has to pass for something to become "legendary" even if it is good. Also, Odyssey is more like a really polished version of the Banjo & Kazooie formula so it's not revolutionary as it appears.
>You didn't have to grab those easy moons.
But I have no reason not to grab them, and as a result, they're forgettable.
>If every moon was super hard the game would look like a mess
Stars were far more challenging to get in Super Mario 64 and that game is better than this game, so.....
got some money left in my paycheck, Luigi's Mansion 3 or Origami King? They both look good
>200 moons
>no dark and darker sides of the moon
Lol
There needed to be more kingdoms. That was my only real issue with the game, otherwise it was perfection
Both of those games are mediocre and boring. LM3 is the better of the two but it's still not that great and certainly not worth $60.
jesus christ, all this cope in this thread
get over yourselves, Odyssey isn't that great
fun fucking game but its not blowing anyone away
It blew me away in terms of polish and production values. No game on the market is as smooth feeling and as responsive as SMO. I wasn't "blown away" by any of the individual story mode moments I'll admit it, but there's practically 0 games that control and feel as good as this game
I couldn't get the moon from 100 jump rope
no it doesn't
OOT was clamored to be the greatest game of all time when it came out
Mario 64 was still mind blowingly good, and no other platformer came close, except Banjo. Crash and Spyro were nowhere near close to the same level of platformer.
>b...b...but muh Sunshine
Sunshine was blown out of the water with better games like Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, or Ratchet & Clank. All having funner gimmicks and better level design.
Let me expand on the lack of diversity in how you approach objectives. I think many of the most fondly remembered Stars in 64 consist purely of Mario moving from Point A to point B in a level, often in a vertical fashion. The game gives you freedom in how to get there and in many cases there are branching paths. I think Odysseys set pieces in the main story really break up that flow and freedom.
>terms of polish and production values
i have no clue wtf you are talking about
Odyssey still doesn't have the movement like SM64, and its graphics aren't anything to write home about.
so....
This stopped me from bothering getting the rest of the moons. This shit and the volleyball moons ruined the game.
How could they drop the ball so hard with Mario Sunshine?
Replay value. I've beaten super mario 64 dozens of times and odyssey only once. There's just too many tedious moons for me to want to go through the game again.
Base movement isn't as good, but cappy combo pretty much makes up for whatever is lacking. Who cares about its graphics, it's a fucking Mario game, not the latest Crysis.
banjo kazooie perfected SM64
you can't give mario more moves than wat he already have in 64. So how do you make platforming more fun with just the same moves?
You really can't, you have to add more moves to give the player more stuff to play with and interact with the environment. Which is why Banjo has Kazooie. It allows him to add a billiom more moves to his arsenal of abilities.
So Nintendo realized this and decided to give a Mario a backpack companion, but they kinda blew it.
Ratchet & Clank did the same with a fuck ton of more success, and rather than focusing on jumpin, they did it with guns and gadgets. This was so popular that Jak followed suit with Jak 2.
It's not forgotten. Just not flavor of the month anymore. Zig Forums has a short attention span so it stops talking about shit unless it's shitposting after a couple weeks.
Yeah but the game moves away from the most dynamic movement set to limited time gimmick sets from enemies
Luigi's Mansion 3, pretty solid game
>Who cares about its graphics
You mention "production values", but don't specify. So i assumed you mean graphics.
The hat is a trash gimmick, and im glad it will never comeback in any other mario game.
I mean, like I said, there's cappy to pretty much supplement some of what's missing, and it's kind of nice to be able to sequence break and bypass some of the challenges meant for abilities.
Not the same guy. Cap isn't a "gimmick", as much as it is an expansion of his moveset. It's not trash at all.
Yeah but there's not nearly as many so I see it as a no harm no foul scenario. Mario Odyssey is bigger and more spread out so it makes sense they pepper in easy moons to get you moving around. If all the moons were super hard jump puzzles the worlds wouldn't look believable. So if you're only complaint is too many easy moons then I don't understand. They're not harming you. The tougher moons are still there.
OoT and Mario 64 were pioneers in 3D gaming. Odyssey is just a really solid all around collectathon. You only really get that kind of response once in history, unless VR stops being a meme.
>Stars were far more challenging to get in Super Mario 64 and that game is better than this game, so.....
lolwut. Super Mario 64 was easy as shit. The original trilogy is where you can at least get some challenge. You won't find it in 3D Mario.
so....
The only reason Mario 64 is as hard as you remember is because it’s control are very tricky to master and perform well with.
because it came out after 1999
