I really want to get into this series but the combat in the first game is such ass that it puts me off. Is there a decent recap of the story somewhere like youtube that hits all of the important story things I should know before just jumping into 2?

If that's the attitude you've got then just skip to 3.

Stop judging it as an action game you brainlet. It's an rpg like neverwinter nights where u click to swing a sword. If you haven't got the patience to play witcher 1 I don't see how you will have the patience to actually follow the story.

You've got to admit that the combat is boring and repetitive in 1.

It's very much an action rpg but arguably even Kotor/NWN/Baldur's Gate have more interesting and engaging combat

I know the combat is bad. Personally I dropped the game because of the inconsistent/wandering NPCs. Gave up on 2 as well because frankly it's a mess of a game. "Skip to 3" is genuine advice from someone that put over 20 hours into the first two games before giving up and moving on to 3.

I've beaten W1 twice and the combat was perfectly acceptable for the type of game it is. In fact I would have liked the game a lot less if it had W3s combat. If you can't see the point of the game on your own no amount of explanation is going to help you.

Thanks for the help anons maybe i'll just read the books.

i unironically liked w1 combat, because it truly lets you roleplay. you have to be engaged, change style, sword and sign choice depending on the encounter etc. kept me engaged all the way, and the experience of finishing the game was worth it, great experience. 2 is also rough around the edges, but the story is worth it too. i'm thinking to do a replay of 2 on a different path with some mods, and maybe replay w3 too with even more mods.
but if you really cant get to enjoy the w1 combat, just skip to 3. they made 3 for people who didn't play the other 2 games, your choices have virtually no impact and all you might catch is a w1 reference in some side mission for like a second but that's it, it even plays like 1 and 2 did not happen sometimes. it's up to you, but playing 1 and 2 make 3 even better

There's choices that carry on between 1 and 2?

the combat is boring and repetitive in all 3 games

at least it's flashy in 1, fully leveled up combos look neat

Oh if that's the case then I'll just play through all 3. The draw is just the story then? Do I need to read the books that come before or will just starting at 1 be fine?

1 has a lot of references to the books but it's fine without reading any

Even Morrowind has better combat than this trash.

you should try the game man is very very fun i'm playing 1 to 3 and i love it
when you get how to battle is better than even the 3, more satisfying killing 8 monsters in 1 piruete

Fuck it i'll play through all 3. Thanks anons. I guess just continue talking about The Witcher if you guys want. They just finished downloading so i'm gonna go dive in

Combat is ass in every game, so don't even bother.

the combat in the first game is the best in the series you massive faggot

The optimal order is 1 -> 2 -> read all the books -> 3

Will keep that in mind.

have fun i play the 1 and i even want to play again

they feel more close, but not really. its just that your legendary tier gear at the end of w1 is garbage in 2, and the carry over is jank. other than that, i really think devs wanted 1 to be forgotten

If you're not joking

how many books are related to the geralt story?
because when i finished the 2 feel like i lost some story there

>the combat in the first game is such ass
Witcher 1 still being one of the best pleb filters of all time

>4 hours
Jesus I might as well just play the game

Thanks user

I see. It's interesting to see how much this one series has changed in just 3 titles.

Does anyone know how the Netflix show ties into the story of the games or just don't even bother with that?

2 is the shittiest
1 is the best
3 is the refined multiplat title retards praise

it doesnt

Cool, thanks

2 is not that bad, i prefer it over 3

I tried getting into these but they made my computer crash almost every hour. I was enjoying the first game but eventually it just became to much dealing with the crashes.

2 is an abortion wrought with growing pains in every direction and I won't be convinced otherwise. The pacing is a mess and the writing is too. It being such a closed world actually hurt the game in the long run. An don't tell me about how much "soul" was put into a tunnel filled with trees and rocks. It's shit.

the show has some book stories and that's about it. pretty bad watch overall but i guess its for normies/ die hard fans

Is the first game best played on hard?
