Hastens the death of single-player games.

Makes sense.

>Allows publishers to use SteamWorks DRM.
>Allows Denuvo.
If he really believed his ideals, it would be an exclusively DRM-free store, like GOG.

What paid service can be better than simply downloading a game for free?

Believing something doesn't mean you have to enforce it on other people.

The easiest way to stop piracy is to sell your fucking games for cheaper.

I love how Valve said this, and then immediately stopped singleplayer games. And when they did make a singleplayer game, it was tied to the implicit physical DRM of a VR headset.

Remember when Crytek warned that the big budget PC exclusive was going to die out due to piracy, with the only real option being to use the automatic DRM of always-online MP games? Remember when people laughed at Crytek? Then remember when... big budget PC exclusives died out?

Remember when people laughed at Crytek for saying that F2P was the future for PC gaming? Then remember when F2P games became the biggest games on PC, and Valve jumped on the F2P bandwagon, too?

better service? fuck that we're making games always online, and multiplayer only, plus that way we can milk the shit out of them via microtransactions
it's a win win for us, nothin personnel pirates

>muh ideals
It's his personal opinion, it doesn't mean he has to start fucking with his business to go ham on enforcing it

which is why steam is popular unlike the epic fail store

seethe more poorfag
you're never supported pc gaming since you never paid for a game and you only pirate
kys

the games are free
also
get a job, it's embarrassing

>the games are free
lol

It's crazy how many people don't understand that the reason why Portal 3 never happened is because Valve's pen pushers felt that Portal 2 had been a waste of time because it made a fraction of the money that Team Fortress 2 hats made.

>If he really believed his ideals
Opinion != something the rest of the company agree on.

I think you completely misread that post. Crytek was warning people that piracy was going to kill PC exclusive big budget singleplayer games. Valve was all smug and said, "Lol, just provide a better service," all the while pivoting firmly away from big budget singleplayer experiences. They only made Alyx to push VR. It was never intended to be a financially viable product on its own merits.

The entire industry moved towards multiplayer (always online DRM) and microtransactions and shit, and Valve was right at the forefront of it.

He just lets marketplace be, aka not forcing neither customers not publishers into anything.
No exclusivity deals, no censoring unless big media scandal, he just lets world be.

Piracy is so common that people pirate phone apps, and many sites exist that straight up catalogue new releases as they come out and let you direct download them without even having to install cracks. Also, not only do single player games still exist and are profitable, but multiplayer games are easily pirated with stuff like Steam emulators allowing people full multiplayer access, or games straight up connecting through Epic Game Store multiplayer regardless of whether your account owns the game.

So what is your point, exactly?

Its their decision not his

>it's another "OP is clinically retarded and lacks basic reading comprehension" episode

>big budget pc exclusives

this is just so fucking retarded, why would anyone sell exclusives nowadays when you can sell multiplat? what does anyone gain from exclusivity unless you're a first party of snoy, microshit or nintendo?

That quote, if actually true, is still older than the average Zig Forumsoomer poster.

Witcher sold well no drm

Steamworks has no effect on piracy so it isn't really DRM

Alot of devs have said to actually pirate their games instead use the bullshit sites like g2a and such that has caused some smaller companies actually to lose money cause they have had to deal with the stolen keys

Tim Sweeney supports piracy. He even pays the copy you pirate.

>tfw pirating the GOG version of New Vegas because the Steam version is being a pain with mods
Good job with your service Gaben.

SJW mentality here. "I don't like it, therefore no one should be able to do it."

He's right though.

I was a filthy pirate but steam made me buy games for its services.
I still pirate on other platforms/consokes though

>Then remember when... big budget PC exclusives died out?

They died out because there's no one on PC who is going to pay you a sack of money to keep your games off other platforms. Which is literally the only reason anything is exclusive anymore

>Zig Forumsroach triggers itself out of nowhere

I never visited Zig Forums, but ok.

>He just lets marketplace be, aka not forcing neither customers not publishers into anything.
Hey, remember when Valve blackmailed Vivendi by threatening to sabotage Half-Life 2 unless their demands were met? That's how Valve managed to weasel their way into securing HL2 as a Steam exclusive.

The primary benefit of a big budget PC exclusive is being able to design a game entirely around a mouse and keyboard. It's kind of shocking how few FPS games are designed with a mouse and keyboard in mind. Something like ARMA can't exist in the multiplatform space because console audiences by and large can't handle long range combat. Something like Crysis 1 is really pushing the boundaries of what a console gamer can handle in terms of complexity.
