This is the one stance I always try to find exceptions to and have yet to find one. JRPG stories are fucking garbageeeeeeeeeeeee. I am always surprised when I hear people say they like them.
I think I have only ever liked MGS3 and some of the SIlent Hill games stories as for jap games.
