That's not how game dev works you retard. Christ, look at games like FFXIV and XV. They lost major figures and still had to make it work with what was left over. programmers aren't that big of a deal gameplay wise if the pony devs can use his engine. what is a big deal is mike not designing the gameplay or balancing the game any more and kinu not being the lead animator any more. they really shouldn't have stated that they'd never work with mike again because they just might need to in the future.

You're stupid as all hell. Companies routinely have to spend excessive amounts of money to hire people to try and maintain pre-existing code bases. The office I work at maintains software from places that used to handle company-wide taxes, from banks, and from call centers. A certain popular call center in central US doubled down on shitty software they paid a bunch of Indians to make, and spends hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to fix it every year. The sheet system the tax place uses is written in fucking cobal, and you better believe they pay top dollar to keep it running in 2020. I won't even get into the shit banking software requires to function at a basic level.
Not having the original engine developers around, if they still use it, will >factually< be a huge obstacle they have to overcome. Even Konami threw away the Fox Engine shortly after losing the developers, and IMMEDIATELY picked up Unreal Engine, just so they could find experienced programmers.
