Both Sony and Microsoft are beings awfully quiet on their hardware pricing and release dates.

I thought it was simply a game of chicken so far, but could it be more?

Perhaps they're worried about yields affecting the price/release date with covid?

What do you think?

They're just waiting for Gamescom which was always going to be the new E3 of 2020 with or without a pandemic.

We are never going to know

Sony is waiting for Microsoft to crack so they can undercut them. And MS will, they've been cracking all year.

That's Thursday right? Do you really expect hardware news?

Maybe not on Thursday but definitely during the event. We've had rumours of a State of Play and Direct at the end of August for ages now too which seems to add up.

Here's what will happen
MS: SeX is $600+
Sony: PS5 is $500
MS: And here's the SeS for $400
Bottom line is don't buy day 1

I dunno of I believe that, no "insiders" have been talking recently.

I'd like to believe it.

Lol

PS5 Digital will be $400 tho.

SeS can't be more than $350 max.

all insiders i've read are saying ps5 is super expensive due to the exotic cooling and ssd. some even said it's more expensive than xbox series x. it makes sense.

ps5: $600
ps5: digital: $500
xbox series x: $500-550
xbox series s: $250-300 (if this damn thing even actually exists.

MS can afford to take a lose on the SeX, Sont can't, not to mention they have the SeS in their back pocket
My guesses are
PS5/SeX:500$
Digital PS5:400$
SeS:300$

That can't be right. Sony may be stupid, but they're not retarded.

If the PS5 digital is $400 you can expect something else will be gimped. $450 seems more realistic.

Retard.

Series S is confirmed due to a package leak, someone got a controller and the package mentions the Series S.

Also the only "exotic" thing on PS5 cooling is liquid metal, which costs maybe 1-2 dollars more than generic thermal pastes in bulk.

I'm almost positive the Series S is essentially a rebranded Xbone X Slim with no disc drive. It'll run the Series X OS though so it will count as next-gen even though hardware-wise it's current gen and thus pretty cheap.

Nope. Sony gets extra money when titles are bought digitally. Also digital peeps WILL 100% eventually need a Sony approves SSD upgrade because you only get one t Mayne 700GB usable.

They can take the loss and make it back fast.

Supposedly it's a tad weaker, but has some DLSS-tier magic that'll make games more optimized.

Forgive my typos, I have a really bad case of hiccups right now. Shit sucks.

I no longer care, both reveals were shit. I just hope they bring enough competition to PC for component prices to come down.

the last time they had such a lead in a generation they pulled 599 so it's never unexpected with them. literally every insider is suggesting ps5 is expensive as fuck. even guys like john in digital foundry have said he thinks ps5 will be $600 and the guy knows his shit about hardware and gaming in general.

Theres no way that the digital PS5 won't be at least 100$ cheaper than the base model. Might as well get this base model at that price. You would save money in the long run anyway

Not happening, Sony wouldn't be playing price chicken if they were just gonna drop a $600 system.

Sony DREAMS of the digital outselling the disc model.

They want to kill the psuedo ownership you get with physical games and digital games make Sony more money as well.

I second this.

They'd never do above meme price.

I feel like stupid decisions such as the 800gb SSD rather than a full 1TB is the kind of penny pinching they're doing to make sure this thing hits a certain price point.

I definitely agree on that pricing.

>A tad weaker

The specs for it are out and it's weak as shit. 4 Teraflops (the equivalent of a PS4 Pro) vs the SeX's 12.

oh yes they would. why do you think they're holding back so long. they don't want to be seen as a laughing stock. if they were so confident that their weaker system which also offers a cheaper diskless version was cheaper than xbox series x they would have announced it already. it would naturally make sense for ps5 to be cheaper because it's weaker and no disk drive compared to xbox which is like 30% more powerful and comes exclusively with a disk drive. but they're still not telling us the price, suggesting it's not as cheap as we expect. it just seems MS are waiting for them to drop the ball and swoop in with their pricing.

No killer game at launch, pandemic, unemployment at all time high, no idea if the Child in charge of the WH will start another fake trade war because he happens to see the new xbox price on fox news.

Lots of reasons to not say it yet

The gimped part will be the fact your can't play your physical PS4 games that are backwards compatible in a attempt to move you towards the PS store. It's perfect bait for poorfags and will work extremely well thanks to covid making people money conscious.

I don't know why Microsoft is even bothering. Unless they're $200 or more below PS5 it's not going to matter. Just announce the price.

I wonder why people care so much. Neither of these will have more than a few games worth playing until the end of the next generation LOL

That makes sense.

It is nice it has a slot for an SSD on top of the base, so when you upgrade they stack rather than one replace the other.

Whoever announces price second will always seem like a better deal. If it's lower it's cheaper. If it's higher it's premium and a better product.

825gb ssd is a limitation of the ram configuration not penny pinching. it's set up in such a way that they can only have 825gb or 1.6tb for a higher capacity.

4tflops of RDNA2. Not all architecture is equal.

Would you think a 3ghz core2duo has faster cores than the latest i9s or high end ryzens also at 3ghz?

It's stronger than One X, but not hugely so. Much weaker than PS5 and Xbox SX tho.

Nope. PS3 and XB1 were announced second and both ended up being the shit console of the gen.

Demons Souls is finished, Korean version of the ESRB rated it. Was probably started as a PS4 game and moved to PS5.

Spiderman Blacked also.

I'm not saying that's how it'll turn out. But it's just the marketers want to be second to have more control

Demon's Souls will release in launch window. Korean rating board confirmed it's done.

A very strong launch title.

Which console is more likelier to be FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE YOU ESS DOLLARS?

At this rate, probably both.

>A very strong launch title.
no it isn't. the original sold like complete shit. casuals have never, and will never care about these souls games. i remember this place hyping bloodborne to the moon and back then we found out it only sold 3m after 3 years till sony put it on PS+. demons souls won't move consoles. even halo infinite would have moved more consoles than demons souls despite how shit it looked.

let's be real here.

On paper I would have said SeX but Microsoft seems like the hardware doesn't matter to them at this point as they're pushing services hard. They'll take a hit if it means millions sign up for Game Pass Ultimate.
PS5 having two versions implies one is expensive so I'll have to go with that.

They already confirmed that you'll be able to upgrade using off the shelve PCI-E4 nvmes.
The one with proprietary bullshit is the SeXbox.

PS5 will be $5 for the dagital and $6 for the CD version, Xbox X will be $6 for good one and $5 for Xbox 3

The Series S has already been confirmed to be using the same CPU and SSD as the Series X, so no, it won't be weak as shit. Also 4Tflops of RDNA 2 isn't equal to 4Tflops of GCN, its closer to 8-9tflops of GCN.

The Souls genre has grown since then, it can't be calculated based on the sames of the original.

Here's what's happening:
This time around both companies have a huge problem: the exorbitant price.
So instead of announcing the prices they are trying to create so much hype that people buy them no matter what.

Imagine if they announced the $600 price tag back in June. The general mood towards the new consoles would be very different. Many people would have made up their mind that they wouldn't buy them and instead of getting excited they would be making fun of them, denigrating them and predicting a new Tortanic. All things the deflate the general hype.

On the other hand, by delaying the price announcements, they are trying to get as much people as possible swallowed in the blind hype, and basically trying to condition them into buying the consoles no matter what the price is.

Only ones that meet certain specifications.

Slower NVME drives will be incompatible because that could create "seams" in games requiring speed greater than or equal to the base SSD.

An Xbone with a better CPU and SSD is exactly what I think the Series S is. Maybe even more RAM if they're feeling crazy.

yes it can. there's more people talking about rachet and clank than demons souls. souls games simply aren't big. that's something people need to realize.

Disc PS5 is only $450 to produce, at $500 it's sold at a small profit.

I don't think they'll pull for the dreaded $599.99
