I fucking adored it, and now I’m feeling those “post good game” blues trying to figure out something else to play in its time slot.
Also, spoiler discussion:
No matter how I look at it Amelie was kind of a bitch and got what she deserved being stranded on the beach. She brainwashed Higgs with horrifying nightmares, used him to do her bidding, then betrayed him at the end when it was all her doing. She then manipulated Sam after she fucked his life up from birth. It was a neat twist to find out Die-Hardman was a total bro through and through though.

what was the deal with Sam being mean as shit towards Fragile at the end saying the connections he made with all of them didn’t matter. Was that to keep them from looking for him when he disappeared with Lou or some shit?
Was it ever explained how data can be sent through the beach via the chiral network?
>meme revolver
Is there a way to go back and fight the whale boss?
Sam only felt kinship towards Deadman, that's why he was the only one Sam actually hugged at the end. You could see that along the story, how they both open their past and thoughts to each other forming a "bro" type of relationship.
I skipped all the cutscenes.
I suppose you’re right, but that’s weird considering the shit he went through with Mama and Fragile. Hell, even Heartman had a pretty touching moment with him. His whole exchange with Fragile seemed pretty out of character. Even Amelie said that he had formed “strands” to each of them.
i really liked it, i thought the story was a little weird and a all over the place, but the gameplay was fun and the online component really helped solidify the message kojima was going for.
I thought the story was fairly well told, especially if you read all the emails and logs. About the only thing I thought could have been better was that big exposition dump for Unger at the tail end of the game. Still liked it but it was sort of a weird time to spring it on you.
kino
I expected to hate the gameplay and love the story
I ended up loving the gameplay but thinking the story was just okay
(The story was actually pretty good, it's just a lot of the writing and dialogue was shit)
DS was also very hit and miss for me.
I enjoy Kojima games. There's really nothing else like them that scratches that itch for weird campy dialogue, bombastic plots and really hamfisted on the nose setpieces. If they came from any other developer they'd go in the bargain bin but there's just something there that makes me come back every time. I liked that there were quite a few cutscenes, though I'll agree they are extremely front and backloaded with basically jack shit happening in the middle of the game. Characters were all good, Deadman, Heartman, Higgs, Sam and the rest of the cast were all very likeable and interesting.
BUT, the game itself just really was not for me. The only enjoyment I derived from the fetchquest gameplay was completing zipline networks so I could skip all the trudging through shit. Vehicles are absolutely fucking abhorrent, I seriously think there's games that came out 30 years ago that had better vehicles. But you could probably explain that away as Kojima not wanting you to use vehicles (why did he put zip lines in then). Apart from the tiny corridor to Edge Knot City there's absolutely nothing worth seeing in the bottom left of the map.
In summation the game is the exact opposite of MGSV, which I also very much enjoyed. MGSV had fantastic gameplay but a terrible, almost nonexistant story.
yea i guess it was just a pain to get through all of it since you had to sit there and read every email, unlike mgsv where you could just pop in a tape while youre doing side ops
The vehicles weren’t made to go on certain surfaces which is why you should have been planning ahead by looking at the map and reading what kind of terrain the delivery would have. It was to avoid you from just rushing through everything in one specific way. Other equipment also allows you to pretty much avoid any “trudging” you’d do, specifically the skeletons and their different uses. It’s all in the tips and descriptions but I get why a lot of people skip that. You aren’t really trained to look at the “instruction manual” any more.
I get ya. I like reading and loved the way it expanded the lore so it didn’t bother me as much, but I wonder just how many pages of a book all the written text in this game would fill up.
I was really digging it but that fucking beach portion with the revolver went on for so long and was just bizarrely fractured.
The most underrated videogame story ever told, seriously, how well it all comes together is incredible. I just don’t understand that this isn’t praised more. I really don’t get it at all. There are memorable characters, many great and emotional moments, it has everything. Only few games have genuinely well made cutscenes with some direction and interesting visuals and this is one of them. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but there is absolutely nothing like this. Maybe it’s too weird and self-indulgent for most people, but compared to other videogame stories it just aims so much higher and it really shows. Maybe I just have a terrible taste, but I seen enough of movies and played enough videogames to recognize something special. I think that it really went over everyone’s head. I don’t think that people are too stupid to get it or anything, but it just feels wrong.
What always impresses me is that pretty much every cinematic trailer for this game is in it 1 for 1.
I remember fishing the Higgs boss rush and thinking the game was pretty much over, but that's really just the start of the ending.
I love the game. but the story is terrible and the characters suck.
I feel the exact same way. My honest guess it most journalists got to act 3, quit, then watched the rest of the cutscenes shared in one of their email groups, where as most streamers didn’t want to take the time to read the tips and descriptions thus not understanding the game and making it look like shit. The story also has a lot less impact unless you understand the terms thrown around which requires the logs that can only be unlocked as you progress through the game so I’m sure a ton of people missed those.
It was refreshing to play something so unique, self contained, and that was such a full package. Might be my game of this current console generation.
Some of the worst writing in a game I have ever finished.
Honestly thinking about anybody enjoying this games story cracks me up.
>im fragile but not that fragile.
WOOWWWWWW AMAZING
>GAWD PARTICAL
EPICCCC!!
>BEACHES "EE"s
DEEP AND SMART.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH you want a good story with good characters? play pic related or read a good book.
>wants to destroy all of humanity
>can't say i blame him
Honestly the game could of been wrapped up right after you beat higgs. The entire rest of the game felt like 2deep4u garbage.
Forgot my fucking pic.
I'm so fucking confused, i just completed the game. So is Lou Sam?
Probably using BB's as well. Remember getting that "Key" BB in Edge Knot City?
This.
Kojima drones have room temperature iq.
I think the game would have been a solid 9.5/10 if it had just wrapped up with something right after you took down higgs. EVERYTHING after that point was just convoluted garbage.
>game has to explain to you what you already know three fucking times
>go through an hour long credits sequence
>still have to watch another long ass credit sequence the next chapter
>both unskippable
Why would anyone think this is a good idea?
Lou is a girl
Yeah, i know. But it's still fucking confusing. They really make it seem like it was supposed to be sam.
>die hardmans mask
FOR
WHAT
FUCKING
PURPOSE
WHY WAS HE AND EVERYONE ELSE WEARING THIS STUPID FUCKING THING, IT FIT NOTHING. HIS FUCKING BREAKDOWN SPEECH WAS RUINED BY COMPLETE RETARD DIALOGUE.
FUCK THE LAST TWO HOURS OF THIS GAME.
The game hints at BB not being Sam multiple times, even as far back as chapter 2.
Not him but are the flashbacks Sam's memories, not BB's or what?
The flashbacks are Sam's Memories as a BB.
So if all the flash backs are sam as a BB, who the fuck is Lou?
