I don't typically play these games. in the past 5 years I've only played the witcher 3, the new god of war and I just finished Nier: Automata. And Nier is the only one of the 3 to have great combat and fun gameplay.
Bot the witcher 3 and god of war have better dialogue. Nier Automata is more generic and anime like. God of War has a great story. The Witcher 3 has a dogshit story. And Nier Automata has a fun story + characters and a mediocre exploration of edgy philosophy.
While out of the 3, God of War is the beset cinematic experience, Nier is the best at being a video game. It embraces the hack and slash / beat em up and has a great variety of computer hacking, shooting and melee slashing. And a nice variety of enemies and bosses. And it's quirky and creative. oh and the witcher is the best at being dogshit
Ending A, B, C and D made me emotional. Ending E made me emotional and put a huge smile on my face. thank you strangers. I love how players were given the choice to be mean. But everyone chose to be supportive. I sacrificed my save file and progress, but I'm happy, I'm going to help someone..
Devil May Cry 5 is an easy contender. It has more depth to its gameplay than any of its predecessors, in a series that literally invented the genre.
Metal Gear Rising is only 7 years old, so it's still [current decade], and while it lacks in weapon and enemy variety, the boss battles and fun gimmicks make it an intensely fun little adventure.
Third one I'm going to hock is Astral Chain. it's pretty weird, since movement and positioning are a big part of combat, and there's a lot of customization and menu diving, but it's really unique and the combat is phenomenal once it finally clicks.
Bayo doesn't qualify because the first game was 2008, and Bayo 2 just wasn't very good.

I just finished the game and it is the best 2010s hack and slash / beat em up (not to be confused with soulslike). the game isn't considered a masterpiece but I can easily see it becoming a cult classic. It genuinely has better gameplay than games that are considered masterpieces like God of War and Witcher 3

The combat is really dragged down by the retarded jRPG systems and level ups that Taro desperately wanted. If encounters were fine-tuned instead to your damage, the game could be easily 10/10. Now it's about 8.

Taro is better than Kojima at utilizing video game medium unironically. Instead of "haha use code from the game disc" or "plug controller to another port haha" Automata lets you remove parts of your hardware (removing one will result in game over) that will for example reduce information on screen/UI/menus but it will free up space for your other enhancements.
