Are video games art?
Jack Smith
Christopher Bell
This level of cope, TWEWY has the exact same kind of main character was a masterpiece.
Cooper Cook
Anything can be art
Owen Thompson
The same way we have good paintings, shit paintings, paintings for kids, paintings for marketing and paintings for the sake of it, we have books and films and music in the same category. Why videogames should be different? The only difference is that videogames are relatively new and without a lot of good content. Just wait for someone with half a brain and a good heart to make a project full of passion
Ryan Hall
>YIKES: A soilent RPG
Hahahaha nope.
Aiden Price
>I wanted to make a game about an unlikable piece of shit character but too many gamers are triggered
Sure, that was the problem with the game. Nope, no one has ever attempted it before and succeeded.
Oliver Rodriguez
yes now shut the fuck up and never ask this again
Blake Rivera
>without a lot of good content
That doesn't matter, there is so much stupid ass ugly art out in the world that is still art. Something being art is not seal of quality or approval.
Daniel Lopez
some video games are art and some are bad art and some are good art
other games are games but not art
other games are more like toys
Nolan James
>getting butthurt when people comments about your work
The state of artfags lmao
Ethan Long
...
Levi Long
No, they are entertainment. Some videogames can be treated as art, but the medium in itself is not, and should not, be art
Andrew Moore
Hes right, but the term "art" is overvalued. 90% of art is junk and nonsense, of no value in any way to anyone.
Connor Butler
That concept was done before and the game was actually enjoyable.
Christian Rivera
filtered by the industry
Sebastian Long
>postmodernism
>literally the philosophy of making life unenjoyable because enjoyable is too old
Andrew Rivera
No. Only old thing can be art. Video games new thing and new thing baaaaad, unga bunga.
Julian Perry
The best part was at the penultimate part of the game where the protagonist is helped by the protagonist of the creator's previous game who whines about how nobody bought his game.
You can make an unlikeable protagonist but you can't make a boring one. WORDSWORDSWORDS of Alex talking about how he feels after every minor plot point doesn't make him interesting or us particularly interested in getting to the next plot point because we know we'll have yet more WORDSWORDSWORDS to enjoy. We feel more like his thearapist than being part of a compelling story.
Charles Bailey
Yes.
Nathaniel Ross
say what you want about yick guy, at least he tried and didn't just make another 2D indie platformer.
Zachary Rivera
>Animation
>3d modelling
>Writing
>Music
All these things are art. Why would a combination of them not be art?
Christian Wilson
What a self-absorbed nigger
Xavier Garcia
yiik was just a bad insufferable hipster game lol, cope
Brayden Wilson
Because you're too gay
Jose Cooper
Art is cringe and lol
Tyler Cooper
Yes, but YIIK's creator is a retard and so are most of YIIK's critics. Alex wasn't a "piece of shit", he was just kind of a fucking boring person who the game told you over and over again you were supposed to hate. The one major "asshole" thing he does is blowing up at Rory and it's entirely justified. The rest of the game he's just sort of mildly annoying.
Jayden Evans
Fuck no. Video games are meant for smooth, flowing and challenging gameplay.
You wouldn’t call a Rubix cube art, unless you’re one of those really shitty modern “””””artists””””
Kevin Green
>plagiarize from a book
>wtf original was art, why isn't my plagiarism art
Robert James
People hate Alex because he’s annoying and weak, anyone saying he’s remotely comparable to Neku/Luke who are explicitly powerful in their setting is missing the point and never heard this quote in its actual context
Andrew Cruz
>unironically quoting YIIK's lead developer
Austin White
>they are entertainment
Entertainment is art
Oliver Cook
I know, that's my point. Half of YIIK's release was Andrew desperately trying to justify his dogshit writing and retarded critics who didn't pay attention slamming the game for all the wrong reasons.
Ryder Sanchez
Fapping to a clown can be art.
Jaxon Martin
Who the fuck let this faggot speak?
Colton Long
The writing of YIIk is really good though, the words words words have a lot of hidden information and foreshadowing and the few times a character does an exposition dump they’re lying through their teeth or just wrong. It’s easily an above average game just with bad balance and kind of boring combat
Sebastian Adams
If only the piece of shit, unlikeable game play here had to transform into something remotely enjoyable by the end of it.
Parker Ortiz
>The writing of YIIk is really good though
No the absolutely fuck it isn't. No amount of decent foreshadowing and unreliable narrators can save that story from being the needless clusterfuck of garbage that it is.
Bentley Perez
>If I subversively infiltrate a medium and then set out to use it to beat a ridiculous strawman of that medium's audience, they don't approve... clearly it's because they're all children and I'm better than them
Every communist is going to hang and this person is exactly why
Logan Richardson
LEMONADE
Nicholas Murphy
>point of the game is that alex is meant to grow up and realise the world doesn't revovle around him
>it turns out he's the most important person in the entire world
kino
Chase Mitchell
Squirting paint on canvas out of your asshole is art.
Josiah Moore
He's just some butthurt faggot who made an ugly dumpster fire of a shit game that sold less than a thousand copies.
Adrian Wilson
>nobody likes my pos game, so games are not art! gamers are children!
Way to be a sore loser.
Hudson Mitchell
Christian Wright
Art is ill defined and can easily change, but generally it's a means to express an idea or invoke a certain kind of feeling from the viewer.
Unless his intent was to intentionally bore the viewer, or express the anatomy of bad game design, then he was lacking in the artistic skills to properly convey his intent.
